Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Does anyone have a clue about which night is the "formal night?"

I've got a Mickey bowtie and cumberbund that I've been saving for just this occassion!:woohoo:

I am SOOOOO excited!

Congrats to all who booked their shore excursions & Palo ressies last night. All of your plans look wonderful. I think this is going to be the best cruise experience ever. :cool1:

I couldn't get a brunch at Palo for the four of us, but I did book an 11:00 for just DH and I on the Tracy Arm day. I'm sure my boys won't mind skipping brunch and sleeping in! I might try to add them once we get on the ship, or then again, brunch with just the two of us might be kind of nice!

I agree....and so do my sons....when I told them all we were going to be doing in Whistler and Vancouver than on the cruse...they got real excited. We always go all out on our excursions but Alaska is a whole different ball game.

I was worried at first that they were not going to like a cruise that involved a whole lot of site seeing.....but I was wrong.

I wish this cruise was a 10 day cruise than it would be that much better....7 days goes soooooooooooooooo fast. That
is why we are doing a week in Vancouver and Whistler first. :thumbsup2

For those of you that are new and that I dont have all the info on page one like if you finally got your cabin numbers and so on please look on page 1 first post so it can be updated. pirate:

Ah their big boys...they can fend for themselves...Mommy and Daddy need to go all by themselves and enjoy time together....just like me and Dh are doing....although my boys are younger than yours:lmao:we will bring breakfast in the cabin for them and wake them up to have breakfast in bed

I will be going through the booking process for our August cruise soon and need some advice from those of you who just went through it.

Which seemed to book up first...Palo or your most wanted excursions? Was Palo tea available as well as brunch and dinner? If so, what days are the tea and brunch available? I'm wondering which must do I need to try to book first in hopes of getting everything we want.

Thanks for the help!
I booked our Palo stuff first and then booked excursions, we are a party of 3 and I know the last time I cruised we had trouble booking lager tables for Palo because there are more 2 tops there than anything else. I would book whatever is the most important to you first.

For brunch by the time I got in the reservations system (15 minutes of Mickey swimming) my choice was 11:30am for Brunch on Tracy Arm day or the last sea day and Tea was only available at 3pm on any of the sea days, dinner was limited to nights 1, 6, & 7 for us.

I keep feeling like I have so much to do and such a short time to do it....I mean really I've only had over 2 years to get ready :lmao:

You know planning, passports, someone to watch my pets and to watch our 86 y.o roommate, and clothing for Alaska( Ca clothing does not work), transportation to and from the airports, trip insurance, and so on and so on....

Talk about leaving stuff till the last few months. DH and I go Friday for our PP...boys done this past Saturday.

Oh darn. My Palo dinner is booked on semi-formal night at 7:00 pm. Now I'm really not sure if I should keep it or not. :confused3

Semi-Formal night is our Ketichican night and considering we don't get to port until 1:40 and most of the excursions run late that anyone who is going ashore and has the early seating is going to miss lobster night. I am really hoping that once the Alaska cruises begin that people will start to complain about this and move semi-formal night to another day.

That's the night we dont get back on the ship till around 7:45...ship is due to set sail at 8:00.......so are for dinner that night for us wont happen. We will just go and eat in topsiders when they turn it into a nice place to eat with a server.

They will have lobster in there for sure. WE wont even change we will just go in as is. I think they serve till 10pm...but will have to check on board....we go there from time to time when we want a nice meal but dont feel like changing to get into the dining room.

You have to tip when you go in there however...they are servers that are learning and they are great because they want a really good review. And there is no rush either...you can sit there for hrs if you want without feeling like you have to hurry so they can get the late diners in.

They have similar stuff as the main dinning room but not as large a menu...but they will also offer you if you ask for the regular menu and they will go and get it for you. When they do that we tip more.

So if you were not familure with this...that is another option if ya dont want to eat chicken fingers pool side. :upsidedow

Found this from another thread ......will be interesting to read...maybe get some ideas however the weather will be colder when they are there. She sails on April 25th.....http://www.carol-anne.ca/2011 May Alaska Cruise Trip Report.htm

The link below is to her whole blog page with all her trips.

I saw on the May 3rd cruise board that someone will be doing a live blog during their cruise and she was kind enough to share the link with me: http://www.carol-anne.ca/disney%20room.htm

Thank you for the information!!! :flower3: We figured we would have to eat Pinocchio's Pizza.

I was afraid we would miss out on lobster if we kept our Palo reservation, but after a little bit of research I learned that they definitely serve lobster on semi-formal night in Palo. Know that, I'll be keeping our reservation. We aren't doing an excursion in Ketchikan so getting there by 7:00 should be no problem for us. For those of you booking excursions, booking a later dinner at Palo is another option if you are going to miss your regular rotation. After all, what can beat lobster followed by chocolate souffle?:lovestruc
