Alaska * May 24, 2011

We have booked another Alaskan cruise/tour for next year. Going on Celebrity. So this year will be a good way to pick up info and port stuff.

Looking forward to meeting everyone we should be there and on board by two!

Our cruise documents arrived!!!!

It's really happening. I so need this vacation. I've missed Mickey.

What does everyone think about having name tags for the meet and greet? I would be willing to make them for everyone.

WOW is the wind blowing here!

We've finally decided we are going up the day before. Working on hotel reservation now.

Turns out where we planned to park is closed so we have to rethink this.

Open to suggestions.

We have never cruised before, so what better way to try cruising than with Disney! We (me - Kim, dh-Anthony, dd Sarah 14, and dd Sydney 10). We are bringing some cruise junkies with us though, mom-Angie, dad-Sheldon, sister-in-law Tamara, and brother-in-law Steve. We won't be doing the FE's but we will try to join y'all for the meet. We are flying in on Saturday to see the Vancouver/ Victoria area. We can't wait!:yay:

Okay, we have a hotel for Sunday to Tuesday at Sutton Place.

Is anyone else there? Good deal for our room through hubby's work.

He may be sneaking on here soon. If he does you'll know because he is NWDad.

Still have to get our Amtrak tickets, but will do that at the station this week. I have some questions to ask so we will have a field trip there, (beautiful building)

Now I still have to arrange the doggie babysitter. This one might be the hardest of them all.

:welcome:

Trying to get my DH to join in but it hasn't worked yet. I'm going to use you as an inspiration! Don't know what he would call himself so I may not know when he is here.

We are doing FE, but are not on the main list yet. So that makes 11.

Trying to decide what to do for FE gifts.
Do we just do one per family? Or do we do anything for the kids as well?

I am there too but only for 1 night. Good to see a fellow Disboarder is there too. I hear celebrities have been spotted around this one.:cool2:

Got our cruise docs today.

Now it seems real

LOL, my DH is more excited than I am.

Let me ask your opinion. We have a reservation at the Renaissance Harbourside Hotel on Hastings. At the time I made the reservation the price was good for US Federal Government rate but now it's up, almost $200 per night. I was looking at Sutton Place and it looks like they are comparable in price. I like that it's sort of in the middle of downtown. Have you stayed there before? It seems like the Harbourside is off the beaten path. What about transporation to the port? Just wondering what others think.

When you book on a gov't rate the price doesn't change, the rate stays consistent. Did they quote you a higher price?

I haven't stayed there before but friends have as well as many of the locals that post in the Vancouver thread.

It seems to be in the center of things to do.

Hasting could be good or bad, let me look it up and see where on Hastings it is. I'll post in a few minutes after I check with my friend.

I should clarify that we are at La Grande Residence Vancouver at Sutton Place. (full kitchen if you are staying more than a day. and only about 20 more than the regular rooms)

It seems to be in the center of things to do. One block off Robson. go to expedia.com and put in the search, you can map it to see where things are.

Ok Renaisance Harbourside is about 3 blocks from Canada Place (in the good direction) along the water. (to the left of Canada Place)

My hotel is about 6 blocks away from the water, but closer to things to do. Both are a cheap cab ride to Canada Place.
My hotel is currently cheaper than yours on expedia, but you have another way to book so check there.

Also I found that if you used www.aaa.com - put in Vancouver near Canada Place you limit the search to those closest. Then you can select 5 hotels and select Map it and it gives you a good comparison by showing you all at once.

Also prices are cheaper tonight than when we were looking this weekend.
