I tried to search, and I know I've seen threads on this, but does anyone know the plan for Semi-Formal and Formal night, etc. for the Alaska cruises?

I've been reading here on the boards that Formal Night is on the second night and that Semi-Formal Night is on the sixth night.

I do know that Pirate Night will being held while in Juneau. I called DCL and asked. pirate:

That is so disappointing since DH and I dislike that menu and skip it and was really hoping for it to be one of the days where we are later in port so we could eat in port.

In the Med Pirate night was on a later port night.

I am so ready for a new menu or new theme night.

On the 3/27 Wonder MR, DW and I enjoyed doing Palo on Pirate Night and then laying out at Quiet Cove pool while the music duo played. They had cushions, blankets, and giant pillows on all the loungers. We had an excellent view of the fireworks, without all the crowds and silly shows. We also skipped the buffet since we had just eaten at Palo and you know how much food you eat there. It was our best pirate night ever! ;)

I had heard about the formal and semi-formal nights; but this is the first I heard about what night pirate night would be. Others have actually reported that they called DCL and were told there would be no pirate night in Alaska:confused3. I'm not sure I'll be convinced either way until people come back with first hand reports.... As the CM's seem to give conflicting info::(.

So, it looks like:
Tuesday/Vancouver: Rotational
Wednesday/Sea day: Formal Night
Thursday/Tracy Arm: Rotational
Friday/Skagway: Rotational
Saturday/Juneau: Pirate Night
Sunday/Ketchikan: Semil Formal Night
Monday/Sea day: Farewell Dinner

I really don't understand why they are making Semi-Formal night on Ketchikan day when they are having a late port day:(. We have a later excursion and will miss dinner and I was really looking forward to the lobster tails more so than any other menu:sad2:. IMO- They should have made Semi-Formal night on Tracy Arm Fjord day since everyone will obviously be onboard that evening and we should have long left the fjord by dinner time...

Anyone else wondering about the character breakfast? Obviously they will have it on the two sea days (Wed and Mon)- but I'm wondering if they will have the third one on Tracy Arm day or Ketchikan day. I think it should be Ketchikan day because we get in to port late and it would be horrible to have it on Tracy Arm day because who wants to miss viewing the fjord for breakfast:confused: I know I would be ticked if I got assigned for that morning....

I'm jumping on the band wagon with this one...I'm really hoping formal night is not the second night b/c we are going to Palo that night :sad2: and I really want to eat the formal menu...but who knows...no one has sailed DCL in Alaska yet...so here is to hoping someone can answer this when they get back...How far along is that first cruise anyway???

I agree completely!!

Any DCL Cruise I have been on has had formal night the first sea day. So I doubt that will change. Formal night is more about the dressing up and pictures. Semi Formal night is the bigger night for the menu, though the lobster really is only so-so.

The problem is no matter what day things are some people won't be happy. Say if Pirates night is on Ketchikan day then those with kids in first seating may miss and their kids will be disappointed.

The thing I worry about more is the show schedule if pirate night is on juneau day. For this reason.

Night One: welcome aboard show
Night Two: Formal night = Golden Mickeys
Night 3: Proablay Toy Story
Night 4: Juneau: Pirates = movie night
Night 5: Skagway (late night in port-7:30pm)
Night 6: Ketchikan (late night again)
Night 7: Should be Till we meet again show

The catch is if they put Dreams on night 5 or 6 then early show will miss, they could make up with a mattinee on the sea day, but that is still not ideal.

So what I dont get is why they are not putting pirate night on night 5 or 6 since its only a movie for the main show. It is not uncommon for pirate night to be on a longer port day. Since then Dreams can be on jueane day.

What I suspect will happen is that dreams will be the last night and no till we meet again show. They did that in the med.

Hmm - I had heard that while they were going to have the Pirate Menu, they weren't going to have a full-blown Pirate Party w/fireworks. Or maybe that means they'll have the "party" on-deck with no fireworks. Ugh!

My whole family voted to skip formal night, so at least now I know when to plan that. DH & I are going to book a Spa Villa for 2 in the evening and the kids will do their own thing. I want our next "Christmas" card picture to be something from an excursion anyway, so everyone seems happy about blowing off the formal night & photos.

Also - kind of along the lines of the Character breakfast, I wonder if Palo will do brunch on Tracey Arm day. At least there would still be good views!

I have heard from others on the board that no fireworks but they would have a party, just they are moving it indoors (like they do on rainy days).

I am on the May 10th cruise and they do have Palo Brunch on Tracey Arm day.

The character breakfasts most likely will occur on the two sea days plus the tracey arm day (since it is basically a sea day)

I see you only have 26 days left until you leave...quick go! Then hurry back and tell us all about it!!! :thumbsup2

Yay! Thank you - I think we'll shoot for brunch on that day. Appreciate the info - and have a GREAT cruise! Can't wait to get some reports back once these start!

This is our first Disney cruise. I booked Palo on Night 5 at 7:30 or 8pm (we have late dining) which looks like it might be Pirate's night. I am concern about us feeling we missed out if we miss Pirate night dining but am looking forward to Palo. Will we feel like we are missing some of the Disney experience by missing it? My girls are 4 and 7 so they will eat before and then go to the club/lab. Also when do they have the movie? Is it at regular show time? I don't really care if I miss it and my girls are too young but my DH is a big fan of the Pirate movies.

For those experienced cruisers, besides formal and semifinal dress, what else should first-time cruisers expect for those dinners? Anything besides a different menu and is the menu for those dinners the same no matter what your restaurant rotation is?

We're in the same boat... Palo reservations on night 5 at 8:30 PM. Should we cancel and go to pirate night instead?

Our family just returned from the 3/27 MR cruise and we felt the Pirate menu was one of the weakest dinners of the whole cruise. Palo can't be missed--make sure you at least try some of the beef ravioli, best I have ever tasted. Fish, steaks, pizza are all great so try and sample as much as you can without exploding!!!! Our waiter in Palo was Alex from Russia, he was great. We are going on the 8/16 Alaska cruise and looking forward to seeing Alex again

:banana::yay::thumbsup2
