I am looking to book Alaska for summer 2019. I was looking at the 7/1/19 itinerary but noticed it is slightly different and looks to include Icy Straight Point and combine Juneau/Tracy Arm. There are only 3 sail dates like this. The other Alaska dates don't have Icy Straight and Juneau and Tracy Arm are separate.

Any advice or information about this slightly different itinerary? Better? Worse? No difference? I know nothing about doing an Alaskan cruise.

Thanks in advance!

Personally I have zero desire to go back to Icy Strait Point. Been there, done that, refused to get a t-shirt.

We took a fun shore excursion in Icy Strait Point. We started out on a whale watching boat, which transferred to a bus for a bear-watching excursion with a short hike through the woods to a platform. In addition to our guide, we had a guard with a rifle loaded for bear (literally) and we did see several bears fishing in the wild, but they were far enough away they weren't a threat. One funny detail -- the side of the bus had a small sign stenciled on it that was intended to read "Hoonah" but lost something in the translation -- it said "Hoohah." oops.

I haven't been to Icy Strait Point, but I'll just say that combining Juneau with Tracy Arm will mean you have a lot less time in Juneau. My family did a private tour that day that was probably the highlight of our cruise to Alaska, so for me I prefer the older itinerary. You could check excursions/fun things to do in both places and see if you'd prefer a full day at one or the other.

Loved Icy Strait Point! They were so excited to have Disney there and everyone was so nice and treated us so well. We did the zip lining and whale watching combo tour and loved it. Food served there was fantastic and reasonable. We will forever call it the Castaway Cay of the north!

I think you’ll still have plenty of time for an excursion in Juneau on the combined day. We did the glacier dog sledding which was incredible!
