Hello! I was wondering if the ship’s deck is dark enough in the evening to see the Milky Way on the Alaskan Cruise (July 17th departure).

Thank you!

Light pollution from the ship prevents seeing anything noteworthy in the night sky.

Sadly, true. On our first cruise I was really excited about taking my kids to sea. The night sky on a darkened ship well over the horizon from 'the world' is truly a thing of beauty. I retired from the Navy before my kids were old enough to go with me to sea, so I excitedly bustled everyone up topside on our first night of the first cruise to see...the moon. I nearly cried.

You're also going to have a lot of daylight in July. Sunrise around 4:20AM, sunset at 9:50PM...add in dusk/dawn and you're only looking at about 4 hrs of 'complete' darkness.

Looks like your cruise starts just after the full moon as well...cutting down on the number of stars you could possibly see.

Thanks for everyone’s response. I assumed that I would be out of luck. But hey, we’re on a cruise!! We’ll make do and find some other activities to enjoy! :)
