This is not a Disney related question, but is transportation, so hopefully someone can help me.

I'm trying to figure out which airline to reserve for myself for a RT flight to Oregon and a one way ticket for my mother. Alaska Airlines has the best one way fare for my mom (who will be visiting my sister in Florida and they will be driving here first, hence the one way ticket from here back home), but Alaska Air is more expensive for me. I am in their frequent flyer program, but for some reason was not getting their e-mails.

I was wondering if anyone receives their e-mails and if they normally send out e-Certificate Codes. If so, I may hold out a little while before buying the tickets to see if I get one since I re-signed up for their e-mails a few days ago. When I went to sign up for the e-mails, it looked like I was signed up for them, but not receiving them due to some error message. :confused3

 Hey, I know you!

I am an Alaska FF but definitely not a high volume user like I am on United and Air Canada. I never get emails either. Nor have I ever rec'd an e-cert code. (I've been in their program for about 2 years)

Having said that, they DO have great last minute fares, one way fares and also good upgradable fares.

I guess that I don't really know the answer to you question.... ;)

Well a lot of help you are! :rotfl: Actually, that is a help, just knowing that they don't send out the codes. I just wanted to make sure that it's not something that they're going to send me the day after I book the flight. I hate it when that happens!

I wouldn't mind waiting awhile to book, except I don't want the one way fare for my mom to disappear. I know that there's a service that my DH told me about that a person can pay a fee ($5, maybe?) and can then see how many seats are available on any flight. Maybe it's worth it so I can see how filled the flight is getting.

Oh, I did find an expired code on the internet. Don't know if it would have worked, anyway, but it makes me want to scour the internet. :teeth:

Last year I was sitting at my desk thinking 'gee, I really need to go to WDW' so I got in the car and drove to SeaTac, left my car with a friend, and went on line to book a one way ticket leaving in 3 hours. Paid about $200 and that was for an upgraded seat.

Alaska is kind of odd that way - in a lot of ways they operate like a legacy carrier, but in other ways they operate like a low cost carrier.

Now, you're not leaving Maryland the last week of September, are you? ;)

New web specials format

Sorry that I couldn't find much else for you - those Alaska fliers are obviously not as chatty a bunch as we United fliers on flyertalk.com!

I'd clicked on the web specials button on the Alaska Air site, so I guess that's why it's not active. I was just on the FlyerTalk site, which I'd never been on. I'm not the worldly flyer that you are! :rotfl: about you booking a ticket to WDW for 3 hours later! But why one way? Didn't you have to return? :rotfl2:

OT and I didn't read through the thread to know if you'd posted, but did you see the Community Forum thread about reclining seats? I thought of you... :teeth:

Yes, I thought of postng on the reclining seat thread, but that would mean that my Transportation Board persona would have to go over to the Community Board - my persona over there is a little different and I don't want to mix up the two!!!

No, I didn't need to leave WDW hence a one way! :teeth:

(and since we ARE on transportation board - a few weeks ago I was flying to IAD on my way to Maryland and was in first class on United, with tons of space bwn the rows. I partially reclined my seat and the woman behind me spent 5 hours complaining about the lack of space in first class. Sorry, that's one place I refuse to feel guilty about reclining my seat..... :guilty: )

Actually, the same woman complained about the meal - on United it's hot nuts on takeoff, meal from Trader Vic's, and an ice cream sundae complete with hot fudge which the FA pours onto the sundae in front of you...

I so have a comment that you could have said to her, but then my Community Board persona would come out on the Transportation Board and we can't have that! :rotfl2: I don't know if there's a Transportation (Tag) Fairy and most certainly wouldn't want to anger one if there is.... :rolleyes1  :lmao:

oh, there are many hot nut references over on flyertalk.com!

Transportation is strictly the facts, ma'am - no pixie dust or tag fairies over here..... :)

We are Alaskaair mileage plan members and the only e-Certificate Codes we get are the $75 companion fare through Alaska Airlines Visa card each year.

NHLFAN, thanks! Good to know that I won't be missing anything. Now to figure out how long I should play the waiting game. Their RT fare is $67 more than the cheapest fare I could find. But the one way fare on Alaska is quite a bit cheaper than the other airlines one way fares unless we want horrible connections (like a 10 hour layover, which my 83yo mother cannot do!). She lives in southern Oregon, so there are already 2 connections to make, with means that the choice of airlines and flights are already limited.

Whew! glad that I gave the correct answer!!!

Now, since this is the Transportation board.... Ms T&B, you appear to be a little lost - do you need a map and directions back to the Community Board??? :rotfl:

(Just kidding, thanks for visiting us over here, and feel free to comment on hot nuts any time you like!)

Hey, I'm still causing trouble on the Community Forum, too... :rolleyes1 I can't spend much time in any of the trip planning forums or I'll get depressed since I don't have any trips to WDW in the works. :guilty:

Well, I have no WDW trips in the works either, and haven't been for 6 months (a record for me!)

BUT I come here to spread some of my tiny amount of knowledge. And I can still get excited since I have another T&B stalking trip in the planning stages woo hoo!!!

(Now I really must ask that we end this thread as my CB persona is getting muddled with my cold straightforward transportation persona and I am getting myself confused!)

How is that even possible? I sit behind Scottie Pipen (former Chicago Bulls player - yes he's VERY TALL!) on a United flight in 1st class. I assure you, he reclined his seat all-the-way back and I still couldn't get my tray table close enough for me to eat!

Well, according to that very unhappy traveller, french ppl can't build a decent plane. She spent 5 hours grumbling - even about the ice cream sundae! She was even upset when the pilot had to use the restroom and she had to wait - thought that he should have to hold it during the flight.... :teeth:

hehehe Another one bites the dust! :teeth:

It's why I'm better off on the CF--I don't get into as much trouble... There isn't a topic to stay on. :rotfl:
