Did you end up with a Trailblazer or something else? Also, realistically speaking - how many suitcases can fit in a standard SUV? Alamo says 4, will 4 large (29 inch) suitcases fit?

THANKS!!!

Hi,
I've never rented from Alamo before - our October trip will be my first time, but I do have a Chevy TrailBlazer and can tell you that yes your suitcases will fit in the back. It's pretty roomy back there. I put our two huge suitcases and two smaller ones plus our stroller to be sure we can fit everything and it was fine. I don't think you will have a problem.

From my reading others posts it does seem that Alamo usually give a Trailblazer for standard SUV and sometimes even for the midsize SUV rentals.

HTH! I look forward to other responses!

Have a great trip!

They had Trailblazers and rendevous at the regular SUV and Saturn Vues and Equinox in the Mid size.

My Aunt just rented from them this week got a Trailblazer had 4 big bags and a few smaller ones all fit fine!

Just saw this and I thought Id chime in....

Alamo/National Standard SUV's are usually

Chevrolet Trailblazer
GMC Envoy
Buick Rainier
Jeep Grand Cherokee

All 3 of the GM Products are based on the same platform, all with the same motors, so basically, the trim is just different (Weve had a Buick Rainier that was really nice with leather and a sunroof). As far as luggage space, the Jeep has the smallest, but that being said, you should still be able to get those pieces in no problem.

I've gotten a Buick Rendezvous as a standard SUV rental from Alamo. It has plenty of luggage space.

I wish that I'd been able to get a rendezvous (what i drive) either got very basic model of saturn vues or stuck w/a pt cruiser (note to alamo - it's NOT a mid-sized suv or mini-van grrr.)

We just rented from Alamo in August and were very disappointed. I was told I would be getting a Trailblazer prior to arrival (I know you have to pick from the lot but I expected something of similar size) and the clerk told me that I would probably get an Envoy in the lot. When we got upstairs, all there was, was rendevous or vues, both smaller than the regular standard SUVs. I will probably not rent from Alamo again. I have done much better with Budget and National even though National and Alamo are affiliated. Also a note, you are better off not prepaying for your gas. The gas is much cheaper outside the airport. I could have paid $.13 cheaper had I not prepaid. I looked at it as paying for the convenience of not having to get gas.

if you have to take a smaller vehicle do they adjust your rate

Not automatically in my case, had to make several calls insisting I get credited for getting stuck w/a PT cruiser (which they insisted was a full-size) in lieu of mid-size SUV.

I'll agree that the Rendezvous are a smaller vehicle, they're actually designated an SRV (sports recreational vechicle). Just wondering, mine has the 3rd, fold down bench seat to seat 7...do the rental ones seat 5 or 7, might work out for those who need the mini-van for seating.

Last May we reserved a G6 through Alamo at the Dolphin. When we arrived to pick it up, we were asked to take an SUV or a minivan. Seems no one wanted those, but since I drive an Escape and had 5 minivans, it wasn't an issue for us. We were quite happy to take a Buick Rainier. Loved it. In fact my ds and his df loved it so much, they are thinking of buying one!!! We were not charged extra for it, and we also did not do the gas prepay.

It's always cheaper to not pre-pay for the gas - just remember when you fill up to do it within a few miles of the airport so the gauge reads completely full.

Hi,
We booked a standard SUV for our trip last May, but when we arrived they were sold out. We ended up with a Kia Sedona minivan at no extra charge!! It was nice to have the convenience and space of the minivan, and my kids had fun counting all the cupholders!!! :goodvibes

Yup, that and insurance are the give aways in the rental industry. Unless you can return the vehicle on fumes, prepaying is absolutly a waste of money. As far as a PT Cruiser being a Full Size, its considered a Compact at Hertz :)

I called alamo and they told me if we have to take a smaller car they will credit us back an adjustment

We had reserved a Midsize SUV but none were available so we picked a GMC Envoy and I was in love!! It will fit several suitcases.

We lucked out with Alamo in LV- rented a compact-had a two class upgrade to fullsize-arrived at rental desk-no fullsize did we want a SUV-sure-no extra cost. Went out to wait-no small SUV's - would we settle for a Durango-one left.
We ended up with a Durango with fold down last row seats for the price of a compact for 8 days. There were four in my family and the other couple we were with didn't have a rental but with the Durango we were able to all travel in one vehicle!

Last time I rented a Mid-SUV from Alamo and I ended up getting a Chrysler Pacifica instead. We LOVED it! This time I want the pacifica again, so I'm reserving a Premium and hoping they have as many pacificas as they did in May. I hate the variety of cars they have in each class. I don't like wondering what kind of car I'm going to get, especially since I have a lot of luggage and a big stroller to haul!

Tell me about it. Although I hate them, Enterprise has a super wide varity of cars. Ive been sticking to Hertz cause there prices have been good and there selection is nothing less then fabioulus!

Any opinions on the Equinox? We don't see any around here and this is what they have listed for us in October.
