Anyone see any codes working for Aug? I am not getting good rates with the codes I have tried so far. Alamo usually serves me well with decent rates... :confused3

August rates for Alamo (and I think all car companies) have been going up constantly. I booked several months ago for our 8/10-8/20 trip and got a convertible for a total of $193. That same car is now over $300. Maybe the rates will start to come down as we get closer, but I wouldnt bet on it. I would go ahead and book the best rate you can get now for the car class you want. you can always rebook or cancel it later if you find something better.

As for codes, Check out either MouseSavers or Rental Codes to see whats available. Unfortunately, I can't share the code I used because it is specific to my employer. As for coupons, MouseSavers has several listed.

Good Luck...

I've also been waiting for a decent August and October rate from Alamo or National. Not many coupons available yet either. I check daily. Once someone finds a good rate, it will surely be posted on this board.

I used walmart code, for 9 days econ I got one for $247.31 was $302.07 using another code. Not too too bad.

Try going to Costco.com in the travel section under rental cars. I got a mini-van for 10 days in October from MCO for $360 + taxes. This was about 6 weeks ago and it seems that the rates have gone up since then.

Rates are high all over for that period. Ive got an intermediate reserved with National in Ft Myers for 5 days at $230 with taxes :(

Ive found an Alamo code with Costco and a free day coupon, which can get me into a intermediate with Alamo for $170 with taxes for the week....Not bad, if I wait in line. Im still wondering if that line is worth waiting for an hour to save $60? Im going to assume rentals on Vans and SUV's will be cheap this summer if gas prices go up, so I will hold out with National...

Best to do, IMO, is grab a rate today, whatever seems best, keep checking till time to go, most often rates drop a lot as time gets closer. I have a National rate for $134, full size, for 8 days next week that started out over $300 some months back. I had a $115 Alamo rate, mini SUV, for the same, though just cancelled as the National came down so much and actually is a better car for me. Keep working on it.

I find that car rental rates can be fickle! I ususally find decent rates that I can live with 6-10 months out. Then the prices start going up for several months. Starting about 45-60 days before I leave, I can often get my rate even lower. When I travel for business, I usually have less than a 30 day window to plan and the rates usually seem higher than when I plan our personal trips. (Granted, I mostly use our company travel agent who isn't motivated to look for discounts.) I agree with the poster who said to book what you can live with now and keep checking. Several months back I got a standard SUV with Alamo for $160 (8 day rental) for our August trip. It will probably be hard to beat that price.

If you have the time and inclination, keep checking the prices. I try to check about every 2 weeks. If I had more time, I would probably check more frequently, just for the challenge of it all!
Good luck!

Has onyone ever tried renting a car through Priceline, your own price. :confused3 I just put an offer through for a convertible for 5 days at $25.00 a day. Priceline advised that the a good price to offer is $40 a day, which is still usually lower than rental car companies. I stuck with the $25 to see what happens. Also, If I find a good rate I will reserve the car and the rate. I can always cancel the reservation within the cancellation period if I find a better rate and if not I saved the most money that I could. Both budget and Alamo allow me to reserve a car with no personal information needed such as credit card.

With Priceline, I beleive (if the cars are like the hotels) the reservations are prepaid, which means there are no cancelations. Never trust what Priceline "says" the car is worth, because they are just trying to earn more money that way by having you overbid. 25 sounds right on the money to me...

I have two ressies and I will keep checking for sure
