Alamo Prepay Question

Has anyone used Alamo pre-pay option and a coupon? The Alamo website is giving me a rate using the entertainment book coupon with the prepay option. I called Alamo to make sure that was correct and she said you can not use a coupon and prepay but if the online system is allowing it and giving me a confirmation then the rental desk has to honor it. Is that true that they have to honor a confirmation? I haven't booked it yet so I don't know if it actually will go through. I'm waiting until the last minute to see if rates will drop anymore before our trip because they will charge you a $5 fee if you cancel.

I used the pre pay in Atlanta, I was worried but no problems. All went well.

I used the prepay method in February and used the online coupon, no problem at all. I went to the counter, had a short 5 minute wait. The process was painless.

From what I was told if you do the pre pay you can bypass the line and go straight to the garage.

I'm glad someone didn't have a problem with the prepay and coupon, but Alamo told me you could only use one or the other.. (prepay or coupon)

Anyone else experience using both? Booked for Sept. and only used a coupon because it was a better rate...

You can only go to the garage if you do the Online Check In feature. This works with both prepay and non prepay reservations....

I just called Alamo at Orlando Airport to inquire about coupons/prepay.

They told me you can only use one or the other. He also said that if you book online w/ a coupon & prepay when you get to the counter they may have to take one of the codes off and you may end up paying more.

Not sure if he was saying that to discourage me from doing both??

It's amazing that you hear such different stories, but I did just rent a minivan from them 2 months ago (Feb. 2006) and used the prepay discount and used the $15 online/Alamo coupon and there was no issue at all. I even printed out the online coupon and asked the clerk if he needed the coupon and he said no. I rented the minivan and at drop off the price printed out exactly right. Not sure why the clerk would tell us one thing, yet be allowed to do something else. I guess I'll find out, since I am heading to WDW in 2 weeks and booked exactly like I did in February, prepay and again used the $15 online/Alamo coupon for a mid-size SUV and my total for 2 weeks is $228, which includes everything--fees and taxes. We have also signed up for QS, so not positive what or where I go, but will find out. I did read that IF you use a coupon, you have to go to the counter and cannot do online checkin.

It is amazing that you hear different stories from the same company. I also read on their website that if you use a coupon you cannot use online checkin. Has anyone ever tried to use online checkin and a coupon?

I think it all depends on the person who checks you in at the desk whether they check coupons or not. I used a Costco code last year at Budget in Orlando. I am not a member of Costo but my parent's who were travelling with us are. I figured if they gave me a hard time I could put the rental in their name. Nobody asked to see any form of Costco ID at all.

I'm still waiting to see if the rates go down again. We are travelling on Thursday so Wednesday is my "check the rates again" day.
