We just got our credit card bill and DH was charged $17.97 for thre gallons of gas two weekends ago when he was at WDW for the inline marathon. He got gas at the gas station in front of the Boardwalk and drove straight to the airport. Of course :rolleyes2 he never checked the slip the guy printed out for him when he dropped off the car because we found it and it does have the $17.97 charge on it and he could've done something about it then. (No matter that I checked Alamo prices each week for three months to get his rental down $25 before he left...thanks DH :sad2: ) ANYWAY...we have always filled up at that station before leaving and I have looked at the slip and we've never been charged before. Plus, it isn't even 25 miles to the airport or barely one gallon of gas. Is there anything I can do at this point by calling or should I just chastise DH and call it a $17.97 lesson learned? Thanks!

Lesson learned. When he signed the rental agreement/contract, it had the per gallon price there. Highway robbery. But people don't refill before returning the car, and Alamo reaps the benefits...

I think they are now requiring a 7 mile close gas station reciept to concider it filled.

They (you know what) me so bad once that I drove around the airport until to miles left on the digital display read 0 After I prepaid for the tank full.

And there are stiff penalties if they have to top off the tank for you -- not just the cost of the fuel.

I really thought that would happen to DH and me in March. We stopped at the Hess station on the way out of MK before our trip to the airport. Well, we then proceeded to miss our exit and drove 10 + miles out of our way. I was watching the mileage very carefully thinking I would have an upcoming fight with Alamo's attendant. We ended up with about 25 miles on the car since the last fill up. Well, surprisingly, I got my receipt and no addiitional gas charge. I think the thing that saved us is that there were about 20 cars that were returned at the same time. So, it was a little busy/hectic. The attendant barely got in the car. So, I consider ourselves lucky.

That may be their current policy Alamo's website says you just pay for the fuel you use and don't replace at the rate specified in your contract. The penalty is the higher/gallon price.

Option 2: Return Full or Pay Alamo for Gas

This option allows a renter to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas or pay Alamo at the end of the rental for gas used but not replaced. Price per gallon/litre will be higher than local fuel prices.

I must have been thinking of Dollar.

Any suggestions on where the best place or should I say closest station to MCO to fill the tank will be on the way from WDW to MCO?

On Boggy Creek Rd. This is the exit to the airport when using Route 417. When you exit 417, at the bottom of the ramp take a right and there is a Circle K store with gas pumps about a mile and a half from 417. That's where we gas up on the return.

Thank you! :thumbsup2

We came from the North our last time. (I don't like taking the Greeneway -- I feel it is too far out of the way.) There is a gas station about a mile up from the entry to the airport. It's about $0.60 more per gallon than every other station in the state! Another two miles, on the left, up is another gas station with more reasonable prices.

Leaving Disney watch carefully for I-4 east signs, then get off I-4 east onto 528 (Beach Line; Bee Line). Get off 528 at its exit 9 Tradeport, left and cross under, nice cheap gas station is right there . Coming out of gas station take lefts to get back into Conway middle lane away from 528, required right onto McCoy, 2 miles from airport which is right at next light onto Semoran (or left to return Hertz or Thrifty cars or to pay 60 cents more per gallon.)

Heads up! I think some rental companies charge you a full eighth of a tankful if you are slightly short of full.

April 6th I rented from Alamo out of MCO for work. I had to drive to Daytona Beach. After I was finished with work the next day in Daytona, I had to drive to Tampa and to get my son and then to Bradenton for a long weekend to help may parents pack up their condo (mom had a recent stroke). We flew home out of Tampa. I needed to rent an standard SUV due to the amount of my parent's luggage. As to my point of this post, I was given the option to pre-pay gas and I was told it was 10 cents less than the price at local gas stations. I checked the prices and Alamo was correct even though it cost me $57 to pre-pay for a full tank of gas on an extended Trailblazer! So in this instance, gas was less expensive through Alamo but that may only apply for pre-pay. No sense pre-paying if you are not going to use a full tank of gas though.

I take it the Trailblazer holds about 25 gallons of gas. If Alamo sells you the tankful for 10 cents per gallon less and you leave one gallon behind in the tank when you return the car (very difficult not to) you break even.

Prepaying, unless you bring it back on fumes, is the mostly costly option, albeit the most convenient. The rental companies like that option.
