We will be at WDW for the Free Dining Sept 18-27 and the prices for renting a minivan are terrible.

We go every year so I decided to look up the promo code that we used last year and it worked for this year too.

Contract ID # 7014664 ($249 base rate for a week)
Coupon Code: AD63514DS ($25 off)

Without using this coupon a minivan was in the $600-900 range (depending on what other codes I tried.

Hope this helps someone else out too. We really like to have our own car and we travel with the grandparents, so a minivan is a must. But $600-900 is crazy money and I'm just never going to pay that price.

WOW! That's a great deal.

We rented a minivan through Alamo. We are flying into Ft Lauderdale and then driving the van to WDW and dropping it off when we check in. You are basically paying the same price for your dates as we are paying for Sept 11-14 from FtL to WDW!

Great bargain finding!

Do you know where this code is from? I would love to use it but want to make sure that I don't need to have a membership to something. I would hate to get to the counter and find out the reservation is not valid and be stuck paying a higer price.

I used Priceline and got $15 a day :) But Alamo is usually the cheapest for me to book the regular way. I always go through the Costco website. I don't think I have ever gotten a regular booking more cheaply than thru Costco.

It looks like a code Alamo has published for minivan rentals in Florida. They do it occasionally. I used one like it a couple of years ago - mine was for a minivan rental at $199/wk.

I have a question for you. How do you know which one of the choices to pick when renting through Costco? There are so many options that I never know which will actually be the best deal. Do you just try each one of them to see which one works best for you?

I go to each car rental's separate site and punch in all the available codes to see where my best deal lies.

It takes some time and effort, but is well worth it in the end to know I have the best possible rate.

This code was directly off of Alamo's site, but when I used it in 2008 it was for a minivan rental in Florida for $199. It was later changed to a rate of $249.

Another trick that I use is to check in using the kiosks at the airport. That way I can avoid those pesky sales agents trying to hard sell me upgrades and insurance that I do not need or want.

I haven't experienced any problems using this method and I have never been asked to show a coupon when I'm driving the car through the checkout booth.

i try a lot of options :)

:confused3
What should I do about this?
When I try to rent with the "special" ($249), Alamo says sold out.
When I try to rent minivan w/o the code, there is availability (for $700ish:laughing:)

So obviously it's not an INVENTORY problem - it is how many discount vans they want to rent, right? Can you think of any way to circumvent this?

thanks!!

Another option is code OOAG through Dollar. My daughter used this one last month on her honeymoon. When I booked it, there was a very significant discount. They had a Charger, so I don't know whether it will help you (I know some got a $199 minivan rate with it).

I usually use Alamo because their prices are better, but in their case, they did much better with the OOAG code.

(OOAG is a public code pulblished in the Orlando Attractions Guide.)

Thanks for the codes! I had found one from Budget but this may be a better deal!

It has been several years since we have rented a vehicle in FL. We usually stay on site and we have used ME the last few trips. This year we have a trip planned at Christmas time, so we are staying off site in a rental home.

I read this thread and thought I would check out rental rates since we will need a mini van for this trip - oh my goodness gracious! $1000 for a week's rental - are they insane????

Well, thanks for the heads up through this thread that I better search high and low for a decent deal for a rental!

Alamo must be onto the Free Dining promo dates. My family of 6 will be at WDW Sept 18-27 and using the codes I mentioned before I got a Minivan for $405. It's a lot more than I usually spend, but we'll have it for 9 days. The extra days cost a fortune.

I keep checking codes and if I see anything better, I'll be sure to post it.

A while back I booked our minivan (for January) through Orbitz. National had a base rate of $199/wk for all car classes up to minivan. It only showed up now and then on Orbitz, so keep checking. When I called the National counter to verify the rate, they quoted over $1100 for 10 days. I was advised to book the deal online, because they offer "hot deals" on these search engines. I then signed up for National's frquent renter program and cut the price another 10%! Our total price is $358 for 10 days.

My advice is to book the best deal you can find, then keep looking in case something better pops up. Then sign up for their frequent renter program and you usually get another 10% off. Watch for add'l driver costs, too. Those can be up to $10/day (National allows spouse as addt'l driver for free).
