Hi, I am hoping someone can confirm or deny the info I just received from an Alamo rep. I have a reservation booked for a rental in Denver. My Insider ID is noted on the reservation and I used my employers corporate ID since it is a signifigant savings. Here is the problem.... the terms and conditions of Alamo Insiders program state:

C. Alamo Insider Program Benefits

As a benefit of enrollment in the Program,

1.Access to exclusive membership deals.

2.Members will not incur an additional fee if the rental vehicle is driven by an "Additional Authorized Driver" as defined in the rental agreement

But when I add my husband as an additional driver it shows an additional charge of $59.XX. The rep told me I will be charged $9.99 per day since I did not book using the Insider ID in the ID/Corp ID box but instead used my employer corp ID. I cannot find anywhere that states I must book using the ID/Corp ID it throws in there when I login as an Alamo Insider. Does anyone know if this is indeed true? I really don't want to drive so if it is true I will have to pay the additional fee since I cannot make my husband the primary driver because I used my employers ID. :headache:

I have never rented Alamo at Denver -- but at Tampa and Orlando, I have used a discount code to book online other than insiders code, and been able to show the desk or booth agent my insider card (profile actually) and add spouse for free at the time of rental. I have not found a way to do it ahead of time -- if you try to add online, its picks up the charge.

The trick is you need to add you spouse as you are leaving with the car at the booth. Just hand the booth attendant his/her driver's license as you are leaving and you're all set. They won't charge extra, or at least they shouldn't.

The same thing happened to me at the Sanford/Orlando Airport. :confused3
The desk attendant told me, since I didn't use my insider card on the reservation I wasn't entitled to the free additional driver.
He told me he could have added my wife at no additional charge; but I got a huge discount with my corporate ID. :teacher:
He decided to split the additional driver fee with me and charged me $35 for an additional driver for 7 days.
Good Luck All,
Joe

I'm a Costco member, and I tend to get better rates through Alamo via the Costco site than with my insider or corporate codes. And Costco includes a free extra driver (plus reserving via their credit card covers you with all kinds of extra insurance).

Alamo is weird anyway. I had a full size rental from 7/13 through 7/16 for $519. Checked last week and got a minivan for $520. Then I checked the day after, and the minivan was up to $2300 for the same period. In one day. Wow.

Here is the info I found on Alamo's web site. It looks as though the spouse can only be added at the rental counter. I do know for a fact based on this past weekend when we rented from Alamo, if you try to add a spouse at the kiosk it will charge you a $10 fee per day. You will need to check at the counter about adding a spouse for free. Since it does say an additional drive is free when you book the reservation on line.

Additional Driver
What is your policy regarding additional drivers?· All additional drivers must meet all rental qualifications.

· Must appear at the rental counter with the primary renter.

· Must present a valid driver's license.

· Must sign the rental agreement.

· An additional daily fee may apply for any Additional Drivers. Click Here to see additional driver requirements and information on the fee.

The additional driver can only be added to the contract at the pick up location.

Note: State law in California, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin allow the spouse to be an automatic authorized driver as long as renter qualifications are met.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have found something else on the Alamo site but not sure I am interpreting it correctly. Does it mean that if I use any Corporate ID and I have the Insiders ID listed that I will not get charged for an additional driver or does it mean I must use the Corporate ID associated with the Insiders program? Please see the underlined sentence. :confused3

Additional Driver Fee / Alamo
Is there always an additional driver daily fee? How much is it?

Any additional driver (including a spouse or domestic partner) will pay a daily fee of approximately $10 per day.

Fees are waived for additional drivers who are renting under corporate contracts and the Alamo Insiders program allows for one additional driver to be added at no cost.

Corporate Contracts in the United States are allowed the following additional drivers at no charge:Commercial (corporate) rentals, the renter's business partner, employer or fellow associate, who has a signed corporate contract with Alamo and drives the car for business purposes and who meet normal renter requirements.

All other additional authorized driver situations are subject to a daily charge.

An additional driver may only be added to the contract at a rental location and may be added or removed in the middle of the contract. When adding an additional driver in the middle of the contract both the renter and the additional driver must be present at the location.

The system will calculate the charges based on the dates the additional driver was listed on the rental.
