I just got an awesome deal on a Chevy Equinox through Alamo for $111.90 per week plus $18.65/day for a total of $198.29 including all taxes (reserved through skyauctions.com). However I am a little worried about luggage room. The Alamo site says that it only holds 2 small pieces of luggage?? Only one site online (Edmunds) had a picture of the cargo area and gee it looks about the size of my PT Cruiser trunk! Can anyone tell me how much luggage will fit? We have two pretty large suitcases plus two medium sized cases for the kids. We have two adults, 1 teen, and a 6 yr old. I was thinking that I could fold down the split seat and the two kids could ride next to each other just til we get to the hotel, and I could slide one big case next to them. But does anyone know if the split seat folds FLAT? Help!!! Otherwise it looks like a great vehicle. If anyone has any input on this rental - good or bad - please let me know!! I have kept my reservation for the Full Size car I arranged earlier ($40+ more for Chevy Impala) just in case the storage isn't good in the SUV. Thanks!!

:cool1: 1 week to go!!!!!! :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc

i looked on skyauction i did not see any thing for car rentals

Sorry about that Happy Lawyer...it was actually CarRentals.com. The ad was on skyauction so I clicked on it from there. Good luck!

I had one in December from National and my one little suitcase looked like nothing back there. I think it'd hold more.

I am awaiting this response also - this is what we have rented for our trip next month also- have 4 adults with 2 bigger suitcases and 3 smaller bags (backpacks type) - hoping this will all fit. Thanks.

My friend and I had one back in October and we had 1 large suitcase, 1 medium suitcase, 2 rolling carryon bags, and a knapsack. We also stopped at a grocery store on our way to her vacation home and we were able to put everything in the back...never even used the back seat. I think you should have enough room. One thing about the Equinox is that in the luggage area here is a hard plastic cover that comes off (it is used to "hide" your stuff), we put it flat on the bottom and then we put the suitcases in on their side.

Plenty of room!

We (2 adults, 2 kids) had one last October, and it nicely fit our 3 standard size suitcases, one small suitcase and one garment bag in the back. Our carry on things fit nicely between the kids.

I can't stand not being able to see out the rear window. The luggage fit nicely in that it was even with, or below the back headrests, making it able to see out the rear window.

Also, this was our first year without needing a stroller, and DW and I both noticed that if we had one, it would've been a very tight fit in addition to our luggage.

Have a nice trip:)

Markp,

Quick question, we are 3 Adults & 1 11 year old. The 2 big men will fit sit in the front.

My question is, the 2 women & one child will they have any problem fitting in the back seat? We all will have one luggage each.

We are driving to the port, parking & then, driving to the airport.

Do you think we will fit comfortably?

Thanks

Hi there,
Just checked with DW to refresh my memory:scratchin. It might be a tad snug, but not bad.

An equinox has a roof mountaed luggage rack. Just pack some bungie cords in your suit case, and use the roof rack for what its designed for...luggage.

I do this all the time and it frees up a lot of space.

Excellent information everyone, especially about the bungie cords! I guess I will cancel our original reservation of the Impala and keep the SUV. Will let everyone know later how it worked out and maybe get some pictures of the car for the board. 5 days and counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

I just went in to change the name of the reservation for this SUV to my husband's name because he will be the driver, and I noticed they had a weekly special coupon for $15 off...I wasn't sure it would take it because I had not booked directly with Alamo, but I tried it and it worked! So I am now down to $180.75 incl taxes for 9 days rental!! I'm so amazed! That's $60 less than the Full Size I originally reserved with them. The coupon code is D42C if anyone else is interested, but you might have to book your reservation then go in to modify it in order to add the coupon code in. One other thing. Booking with Alamo directly will get you an additional driver for free, but if you book with an outside company then you have to pay extra for the add'l driver. My DH always drives so no big deal for us, just fyi for those who swap drivers regularly!

I booked our SUV this morning and I didn't even notice that the confirmation included an additional driver. We've used Alamo for several of our trips to Florida and I always thought they charged for additional drivers (and I'm too cheap to pay for an add'l driver so either DH or I always did all the driving). Thanks for mentioning otherwise I wouldn't have known!! We not only got a great deal on the SUV but we can BOTH drive!! :)

After reading this thread, I went and tried out Alamo for the suv price and am getting 143.00 /wk without a code. This is still a really good price for August, but am wondering if you guys are using a code? Also the suv price is actually cheaper than the compact car???? This is really strange, maybe a mistake? Or is it always this way?

I used the $15 off weekly rental code on their website plus mousesavers codes...rate code BY and ID 430710 and yes, it's cheaper than the compact.

Thanks Jeanne B!

I went back and used a mousesavers code, and saved 40.00! down to 127.00 / week now. Have the suv for 18 days for under 400.00! I priced national last nite and was 669.00 for the same suv.

Did anyone notice the trailblazer is about 15.00 more than equivox only? Wondering how much more luggage room you get in the trailblazer? Or is that really big to drive? I have a Santa Fe now and don't really want to drive anything really great big, hard to park at DTD. :scared1:

We returned this afternoon from our trip to WDW and Universal. I had reserved an Equinox through Alamo, but when we arrived on Monday evening, there were none available, so we chose a Trailblazer. It was very nice, but a little big for my taste. I drive a Pontiac Vibe, so the Trailblazer seemed huge to me. It drove nice and it was very quiet. You can't always count on getting the vehicle you reserve. Sometimes, they just aren't available when you get there.
