I noticed they have 2 types of optional insurance. One is basic, the other is extended. Does anyone know what the difference is? Whic do you get? One is $22 per day the other is half that? :confused3

I don't buy any insurance when I rent a car. My credit card has rental car coverage, and I believe my own auto insurance will cover me when I rent a car. If you don't own a car and therefore have no liability coverage, then you might want to purchase their insurance.

thanks,i am in Canada so i don't know if our coverage will apply to USA?

If you have rental car insurance (it's a special option costing about $25 per year), on your personal insurance, you are covered for any rental in USA or Canada.

Like any insurance, be sure to check for exclusions.

I am from Canada too. :yay: Call your car insurance comp. and asking them if you are covered for rentals in the US. If not ask for a rider. Costs about $25. Good luck!!:thumbsup2

check with your insurance company about what it actually covers. My FIL was in a small fender bender last year with a rental. His personal ins. had huge deductable for it and he ended up with quite a bit of oop expenses.

The one that is $22. is a waiver for Collision and loss of use. If you have an accident you can just walk away from damage unless it's caused because you're drinking or doing something illegal etc.
The extended one which is about $12.44 is for extended 3rd party liability. If you damage someone else or their property it will pay and also if they sue you.
Some of the gold and platinum credit cards offer the first one if you pay with the card. It isn't a waiver, it's insurance. You are responsible for the damage which your credit card will cover.
And there's also your own car insurance as the others have said. You can get extra coverage to protect a rental car also for very few dollars compared with the car rental desk. Make sure it includes the liability insurance.
But there's always the aspect that if you have an accident using your own car insurance it means it will be your rates that will go up. Just something to consider.
