Alamo car hire help please?

This summer we will be renting a car from Alamo through a third party. The cost will be paid in full before we leave for the US.

Last time we spent over an hour waiting in line at MCO for our car and it was torture. With 2 tired kids after a 9 1/2 hour flight it is not something I am keen to go through again.

I have read about online check in and the self service booths. Can anyone please tell me if you can use these if you book through a third party and what exactly I need to do beforehand and when I get there?

What 3rd party are you using? Expedia, Travelocity ?

Online check in requires a valid US (or Canadian) drivers license.

I'm not sure if you can use the kiosk. The website only mentions a valid drivers license but I wouldn't be surprised if the kiosk is unable to verify the validity of a foreign drivers license.

You might contact the third party and ask them. I can't think of a reason not to at least try the kiosk but I suspect you'll have to wait in line.

Residents of (at least some) European countries are required to purchase insurance and prepay for the tank of gas in the car. There are some overseas TA that bundle a car rental from a major agency like Alamo with the required insurance and gas for far less then the cost of buying them retail from Alamo.

If the third party gives you a reservation number you can try to check in online. If you can do this, print the online documents, and when you get to the airport go and get your car and proceed to the exit. You will need to show the exit agent your online document,credit card and driver's license. Exit agents can process your reservation at the exit booth. I get a lot of UK residents with online checkins.

The third party is Florida Car Hire and the cost is substantially less then Alamo direct even with the insurance and gas prepaid here.

I will try it and see how it goes. Anything to avoid that huge wait!
