Hi everyone!
We used one of that $25 off coupon for Alamo and I just wanted to report that they never asked us for the coupon at the counter.

I believe the combination for our rental we used was:
Wal-Mart contract 430710, rate code BY and the $25 Alamo coupon D24C

Just wanted to let you all know just in case you were wondering.

We ended up with a Chevy Trailblazer for 6 nights, 7 days for a total of about $115.

Overall, a great experience!

Thanks for posting your positive report. That is the same thing I have booked June 2-12, except for a mini van. I am glad to hear a good report. I was getting worried and thinking I should have changed to National. But now I will just relax. 2weeks to go

Thanks for posting. I'm using this same combination in August, getting less and less worried about the mix and match issue! I do have the coupon in case they ask.

Thanks for posting, hope you had a great trip!

Did you try to use QS kiosk in garage or did you wait in either the regular or QS line?

When did you arrive & how long was your wait @ counter (always the worst part IMO)?

TIA

I didn't try to use that kiosk only because with the coupon I wasn't able to check in online. When we got there (about 7:15pm on a Saturday evening) I had a very minimal wait (about 2 minutes). Although, the counter to the left of us was the Budget counter and there was a HUGE wait there...so glad we chose Alamo this last time as we've gone with either Budget or Dollar for the last several trips.

HTH!

Hi All - what am I doing wrong. I am putting in the following:
Wal-Mart contract 430710, rate code BY and the $25 Alamo coupon D24C
My dates are 8/9 - 8/15
pickup is at the Car Care Center (ORLR72)
Car type 1 - Midsize Chevy Equinox - Final Price with taxes is: 239.46
Car type 2 - Standard SUV - Final Price with taxes is: 246.81

What am I not doing correctly?
Thanks! :confused3

I think that the codes are not reduced because alamo has not release the August special yet Try again at the end of June :sunny:

What am I not doing correctly?

I made a reservation a few months ago for the end of August using this same combination. The car care center rates were much higher than the airport rates, and that was for a compact (CCC) vs. mid sized SUV that we reserved at the airport. Rates have gone up quite a bit since then, but I would bet you could get a much better rate than what you are finding if you rented at the airport.

Ok - so now my ignorance is showing. We are set to use ME. If I decide to rent from the airport, what are my options with the ME? What about our luggage? Would I be better off having DH get the car, and I continue on using the bus with the kids and the luggage?

Thanks again!

Just in case ;) , where did you get the coupon??? From the Alamo website??

Jaff-If you rented from the airport, I would cancel ME. I don't see any advantage in taking ME except from the financial stand point????

Our dates for Disney is 8/7 - 8/16. I do not think I want a car for the whole time we are there, but I am still shopping around. Can anyone tell me any logisitics about the National Car location at Swan? Since we are staying at POR - can we call the Swan for a Shuttle to pick us up to take us to their counter at the hotel? I know the shuttle will pick you up to take you to the car care center at MK...

jaff87 - You may want to call the National Desk at the Swan to ask them this question.

Just adding our Alamo experience. We got our car on May 8, return on yesterday May 18th.

I didn't get the car my DH did, but he said the line was long. And we waited a long time. Took probably an hour I would say. Our plane landed around 1:30pm and we didn't get out of the airport until near 3pm.

He said he was not asked for the coupon either.

However he was badgered about insurance. Alamo wanted proof that we were insured. In Mass we don't carry insurance cards. Our insurance is listed on our actual car registration which we don't carry around with us. We were paying with AMEX which actually does cover us as well as a secondary insurance but my DH had to really argue with the girl at the desk he said. Finally he was let out without having to purchase insurance.

He said she claimed that FL. law states they need proof of insurance. I have heard of car rental companies asking for proof but I never heard it was a law. The next time we travel we will bring a copy of a car registration and I know have a .pdf file from Amex listing what they cover as well. Which I think is up to 50K, everything smaller than a minivan(they don't cover large SUV's like Suburbans) and they don't cover liability.

So bring your insurance card or some other proof.

Otherwise I was happy with $181 for the 10 days!

jaff87,

When we rent at the Dolphin, we either take the boat over from MGM or Epcot, or take a bus from MK or the AK. They have limited hours. I don't know what time they open, but they close at 4:00 pm.

WOW! I guess it depends on what agent you get at that desk. We were never pressured about purchasing their insurance. I know I'm covered under our car insurance and our AMEX traveler's policy.

To my knowledge there is NO such law. That was an illegal and high pressure attempt to get you to buy their high priced insurance that protects THEIR car.

I cancelled my Alamo car rental yesterday, I just don't want the hassle of the parking, trying to find my way around, as I get lost easily in new places, and dealing with car rental agents. I am taking ME.
