If I do online check in and "Skip the Counter", inputting driver's licenses, etc., can my husband, the additional driver, NOT be in the car when I drive out the gate? He is flying in 2 hours later than I am, so my plan was to pick up the luggage and the car and then wait in the cell phone lot and pick him up when he got off the plane and get right on the road. Has anyone done this and had it work? If not, could I stop at any Alamo facility and have them verify his license?

He will need to be present, they will verify identity at the gate when you have used online check-in or the kiosk (same if you go to the counter).
Best bet is to just wait for him to arrive, pick a spot to meet up (perhaps in the central food court area)
