I have a van reserved for 4/6 - 4/14 using the Southwest code. I can't add my husband as an additional driver without it adding a charge of $9.99 per day. Is this set in stone because of the code I used? Or is this something that can be handled at the counter? We are both insiders. I guess I'm just confused as to when he can be added at no charge and when he can't.

The problem arises because you did not log in using your insider's log in. They will handle it at the counter and add the add. driver at no charge. Just make sure you tell them you are an insider member or, if you can, add your Insider Info on your reservation by modifying it or call Customer Service. Bring your card and your husband's card with you, just in case.

Alas, I was logged in and my insider number is noted on my reservation. I spoke to customer service and was told that it was because of the southwest code. She said that it would be up to the location. I will just hope for the best and if not, I'll be doing the driving!

Insiders are supposed to get a free additional driver ALWAYS regardless of the code.
If you use the kiosk to check in and it actually shows a fee for the add driver, mention it to the exit booth agent, they have the ability to waive the add fee. I used to do it all the time.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for that information! :thanks:

I had the exact same problem and yes, I was logged in with my Insider's code. We ended up arguing with the attendant at the gate to add my DH for free- we kept telling her that Insiders got this benefit, and she spoke such poor English she just wasn't getting it. The people behind us, waiting, were not pleased. But we finally convinced her to do it.

Bottom line is, if you are an Insider you do not have to pay the fee, regardless of the code you used to book. Next time I will check in at the desk, not kiosk, to avoid making other folks wait.

You might run into the same "buzz saw" at the desk, sometimes the agents don't listen or simply don't know the rules. Just ask for a manager. The agents that don't speak English very well, do understand it quite well. They are just unaware of the rules, which drives me crazy!!! I often wonder if they fell asleep during training.

For what it's worth, I had no trouble adding spouse as free additional driver at kiosk two weeks ago. Kiosk prompts were easy to follow. (I have had trouble other trips, and gate person was able to fix it.)

Good to know! Thanks!
