We are 4 adults and 2 children who are visting WDW from Scotland soon and we have booked with Alamo a 7 seater 4x4.

Has anybody rented this vehicle type and if so what did you get?

Alamo have said GMC Envoy or similar but after looking at the GMC website it only seems to have 5 seats. My knowledge of US car types is limited.

Any info would be appreciated.

Can anyone help?

I am unsure whether there will be enough space for 6 people and luggage on the trip from the airport to WDW or should I send Granma and Granpa on the DME.

I am not too familiar with this type of vehicle either but I suspect there is some type of fold down rear seat that will accomodate 2 people. If you use this seat though, you will probably lose most of your storage space and will have little to no room for luggage. So my guess is the vehicle will hold 7 passengers and no luggage or 5 passengers and luggage. I hope this helps.

It only seats 5. You can also check with Avis or Hertz. They have big SUV that seats 7. While you are at it, you can use C031529 AWD for Avis and 1757580 CDP for Hertz for discount.

I may be able to help, a little. We ALSO booked the full size SUV, that was supposed to be an Envoy XL, or similar, and it said it would seat 7 adults, PLUS hold 3 large bags, and 2 medium. I still have the printout of that vehcile descrption, from the Alamo and National websites. I also became nervous, when after booking it months in advance, I saw the description change on the site, to seating and holding far less. We arrived at Alamo on August 4th, and we had to fight with them for well over an hour about this situation. We had our reservation, we are *********** members too, and I had my printed vehicle description. We had to callover several members of management. They told us for over an hour that the vehicle was "coming". (I am sure it was not) They kept offering smaller vehicles, we have 6 adults, and a wheelchair, and we said we would take the size we reserved, or larger, NOT SMALLER. It was over 100 degrees, and they let my one child sit there in his wheelchair, in the 100 degree heat, while this went on....... They showed us a regular minivan, we said NO. The employees were nice, they wanted to help, we could tell they thought we were right, it was the manager who would breeze by, and say they were not required to help us, because of the "OR SIMILAR" on the reservation. WE said similar means it seats the same number of people, and holds the same bags, just a different make or style. FINALLY they gave us a 8 seater minivan, the Toyota Sienna. This minivan is AWESOME for large families. I cannot say enough how great it was, and they finally did satisfy us. So, I would say, bring your paperwork, and be prepared to fight. I can only guess they somehow made a mistake on the vehicle descriptions, but how odd that it was on both Alamo and National.

Plus, I was asking Alamo, what is difference between the SUVs anyway? They have Mid size, standard, full, and premium. It is all a little hazy, as they said the vehicle that was "coming" all that time, was actually the standard suv.... They said, they NEVER have the full size SUVs on their lot, they always have to call for one, it is a special vehicle. HUH? They had several Surburbans there, they said those were premiums, and they were the size we thoguth we reseved. And there were people coming in, while we were waiting all that time, disputing huge rental car bills. People who paid $800 and up for a week! Some seemed very confused, one was talked into a larger car for $30 more, but did not understand it was $30 more a DAY. (some people do not travel alot, do not read the small print, or do not speak good English, and they are taken advantage of, in my opinion)

GOOD LUCK :hippie:

OT but I own a 8-passenger Sienna and completely agree. It is the perfect vehicle for my family of 5 to make the annual drive from MA to FL. I put the 3 kids in the middle row and fold down the rear seats and I have more than enough room for all of our luggage :thumbsup2 Even with 8 passengers there is still a decent amount of room for luggage.

Thanks for your help. I think I will send the children and my parents on the DME while I collect the car. If we end up with a 7 seater van instead of a SUV it won,t be the end of the world. I booked the large SUV because that is what I drive at home and I thought it might feel more normal to drive even if I am on the "wrong" side of the road and it was also $60 cheaper than a 7 seater van.

Hope we don't get messed about by Alamo as I won't be in the best of moods after a 10hour transatlantic flight.

Thanks again

instead of the 4X4, why not take the 7 seat minivan?
we've rented that every year for several years from Alamo....
and since at alamo you get to pick the specific vehicle you want from the ones they have, you can be sure to pick the one that has enough space for your luggage (we ran down the line of minivans, until we found the one with the largest back area)....i forgot which make of minivan they have, but they're very nice....
