We were at DCA for WOC the day he died. When it got to the part in the show with the Genie's song there was thunderous applause that lasted quite awhile. It was lovely to see so many were touched by his gifts over the years.

The Disney Channel showed the movie version this morning.

Apparently I haven't memorized the show (I think I've only seen it twice and I missed half of the first time b/c they don't/didn't have bathrooms in the theater and DS had to go!). Is that different than normal? How is it different from the usual ending of the show?

Normally it would just end with the cast singing Friend Like Me. In the short tribute, the stage goes dark for a second and then Genie is out there by himself. He looks upward, raises his arms, and makes a gesture with his clasped hands. That's it.
