Is there any news of Aladdin ending at some point and a new show coming in or is it still running indefinitely?
At this point there is no end in sight.
Any idea how soon they can get the carpet to fly again?
If and when the Disney lawyers allow it to happen. They are very lucky that the two performers who were up there were not seriously injured or killed, but that doesn't mean they don't have a potential lawsuit on their hands still. I'm sure they have to figure out why the system failed, what they can do to keep that from happening again in the future, and how they can better secure the actor and actress who are on the carpet so that in the event of a major malfunction they are not hanging on for dear life. Aladdin definitely saved Jasmine that day. And also, they need to ensure that the carpet will not cause further injury or death in the event of malfunction to the audience below.
I wonder if Disney has the ability to use animatronics on top of the carpet instead of live actors, and if so, would that decrease the weight on the carpet, would it decrease the risk of parts falling in the event of a malfunction, etc.
I do know however that the Disney legal team is all over this and it will not be back up and running until they get it all sorted out.

Was wondering this very same thing as I cannot see any listings for Aladdin on the entertainment schedule beyond 3rd or 4th December. Is it normal for listing to not be complete at this point?...
A year or two ago there were numerous discussions here and elsewhere of Aladdin closing as early as Sept. 2010 and being replaced with a Toy Story themed production. We were there in Aug. 2010 and several CM's had told us Aladdin would be closing soon. What happened to those rumors? Is Toy Story show still a go but waiting for Carsland to open?
I miss all the great shows they had at the Fantasyland amphitheater. Shows such as Dick Tracy, Pocohantas, Beauty and the Beast and others were excellent. Was great that they changed the show every couple years.
*PLUS* there was a lot of fan backlash by folks who had seen both shows, and the Aladdin is generally accepted as the better show.
Given the fact that Aladdin always seems to be sold out, I would say the answer is "yes".Aladdin is a great show but its getting old for me. Would you want your local theater showing the same awesome film over and over for years or want something new to see?
I loved the fact that the Fantasyland amphitheater changed its show every 2 years or so and miss its closing when Hyperion opened. Shows get old no matter how good they are.
It was planned to stop running, but after considering it DLR changed it's mind. A long time ago the Disney Blog had post regarding this. I believe around August of 2010.A year or two ago there were numerous discussions here and elsewhere of Aladdin closing as early as Sept. 2010 and being replaced with a Toy Story themed production. The rumor I've heard is that they are going to put that show on the new Fantasy ship in March. That is unconfirmed and even if they did there is no reason why they couldn't have the show on the ship and in the park but the speculation was that it might be leaving the park for the ship.
Let me stress that this is pure rumor and speculation and I haven't followed up on it in weeks. I was following pretty close becasue I was going to be on the Fantasy in June of 2012 but I've moved that trip out to 2013 so I just don't watch that close any longer.
