We drive from Shreveport. Most of the time we take I-49 to Lafayette and then stay on I-10/12 until we get to I-75. One time we took I-20 to Jackson MS and then took Hwy 49 thru Hattiesburg and on to Mobile on Hwy 98. When we hit I-65 just outside of Mobile, we got on that to I-10 to bypass downtown Mobile. This is a good way to go. Wide roads, traffic not so bad.
If you can get to I-20 or Jackson MS someway - don't know where you are driving from in Arkansas, this would be a good way to go.
Either way that we go, through Lafayette or Jackson, takes about 14 hours. We usually stop for the night at Daphne, AL, just across Mobile Bay from Mobile. There is a nice Comfort Suites and Hampton Inn at that exit. We have driven all the way to Tallahassee, but haven't stayed right on the interstate there. We stayed closer to the university and downtown because we wanted the queen sized beds of Comfort Suites instead of Comfort Inn.
