Wow-this is great! Thanks so much, Mickey's Apprentice! Now, when we move to Alabama we can find other DISers. It's so nice to see Oxford, the "town of the week" we're considering (gee, do ya think it has anything to do with Cider Ridge golf course that DH loved?). That has 2 DISers in it, so it's gotta be a good town!

thanks Mickey'sApprentice

there are more disers dvc in Montgomery and Mobile than in b'ham - not doing a very good job recruiting am I - well have to work on that.

Mickey's apprentice - if you can - edit your first post and move your list to that one. so it will be easier to find.

I don't actully own DVC yet but I am shopping. I am from Troy also and I just wanted to say WAR EAGLE!

It's funny in Alabama when you are born you are automatically required to state your allegiance as soon as you can gurgle :rotfl2: .

Isn't this the truth!!! It's funny b/c we live in Atlanta now and it is just totally not the same. We see more people sporting Auburn & Alabama clothes & team stuff here than UGA or GT. When you are out and have that stuff on, the first thing people ask you is "Did you go to school there?".

We have a friend that went to UGA and is now at law school in B'ham and he said he just couldn't believe the difference in the way fans are there. He now says it truly is like a religion for Auburn & Alabama fans!

War Eagle!!

I was born and raised in Florence and lived in Killen for a while.

I'm living in Birmingham now.

Just got back from my first trip last week (wife is an ex-CM) and this week we're in the process of buying at OKW!!!

Wish us luck!!!

ROLL TIDE!!!

I was born & raised in Florence (1974 - 1997). The when I got married we moved to the Killen/Greenhill area (1997- 2003). Now we live in Atlanta!

Congrats on DVC! We are owners but I long for it one day!

DUH...I didn't even notice that you had quoted me when you were telling about where you lived! Oops!

Your Welcome Simba's Mom. Have you thought about Florence? Let me know if you want more info.

Your welcome. I think there are plenty of metro Bham DVCers if you count Pelham, Gardendale, Hoover, etc. You are doing great!

I've edited the 1st post.

Ahhh, the Shoals...I want to go home!

Hey spiceycat:

I'm not ready to let this one go either!!!

Have you recruited any Bham DVCers yet? Hmmmm?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

For all you B'ham area DVC'ers - which driving route is the best and how long does it take you to drive? We have always flown but are planning on driving this June. Do you go through Atlanta or take 280 through Montgomery? Any advice would be much appreciated.

We are in Pell City, Al ususally go down a couple of times a year.... We think the fastest and easiest route is 280 until it turns into 52 ( i think) all the way to 75 south... then zip on down.. make sure you take the new turnpike outside of Orlando. 8 1/2 hours or so.. have fun!!

We are in Montgomery and take 231 to I10.

We have a tradition of making a rest stop and getting free orange juice at the Florida Welcome Center!

We usually take the same route. 231 to I10 to 75 and then the Fla. turnpike. I10 gets tiresome after a while but it really does seem like the best route. Yahoo maps say to go through Atl. and take 75 all the way. But I don't want to go through Atl. for anything if I don't have to.

We take 280 from Chelsea (B'ham) through Columbus to Albany then across to Tifton to hit I-75.

This looks like the best route on the maps to me. How long is your trip? I will probably need to add about 45 minutes to your time from Gardendale. Thanks.

We live in Mobile. We are considering buying. Have read many threads and posts. There is so much info and we appreciate all of it. Can't wait to post a review of our first trip :cool1:

I would really like to talk with one of my fellow Mobilians about their experiences with DVC. Any takers?:confused3

go I65 - I85 to exit 9 - then US 231 -( sometimes turn off in troy 167)otherwise get on I75 - florida turnpike then take 429 toll road that will save you about an hour.

once in dothan took 84.

took 280 once - problem then it didn't have rest stops - when you are traveling with other people who need a rest stop - well it doesn't work so well.

my time when I am alone 8 to 9 hours, when anyone else is in the card - 10 to 11 hours. family and friends need more rest stops than I do.

drive at night mostly. the sun is not my friend.

one time took US 27 (in florida - Tallahassee) to US 192 - then WDW. don't know if I will ever go that route again. the route was great nothing wrong. but the truckers in this area was greatly exceeding the speed limit - seeing one of those things going at least 125 mph is not something I want to experience again.

Is it a lot better to take 84 in Dothan instead of 231 to I10?

I don't mind rollin' fast with the big dogs, but would like a shortcut, or even a change of scenery from I10.
