Al E. Gator Sighting at BCV

While at WDW, I made sure to stop over at BCV and look for my pet, Al E. Gator. Sure enough, I whistled and within 10 seconds, he was greeting me. I did take pics this time, lol.

(I love alligators, lol, and think he is a major plus to BCV, my home resort!)

We saw him last week too (between BC and YC...near the convention center entrance?)! Got a picture...the kids were enthralled...to say the least!

Al seem to have been at the BCV for quite some time now. I wonder how big he has to get before he is shipped off to where Disney gators go?

Do the Disney castmembers who work around the lagoons and in pest management use animatronic chicken parts to feed the gator? He's real and so is the one in the MK near Tom Sawyer's Island.

Most of the time yes. As the chickens in PoTC wear out, they throw them to Al E. Gator. When a worn out chicken is not availible, they just use the standard rubber chicken you can buy at Wa L. Mart.

But seriously, is there any other BCV family besides mine that is yet to spy Al E. Gator? We've stayed at BCV a few times now and I look for him/her each time we walk by the canal and have NEVER seen him!

Since we live in gator-free Indiana, we always look for Al and company but only this last trip did we finally spot a gator. S/he was basking in the sun on the hills surrounding the lake at the entrance to the Golf Course just past the Ft. Wilderness entrance -- I think it is Eagle Pines. Made me wonder what posessed us to swim at the Ft. Wilderness beaches as kids!

We looked for the giant Magic Kigdom gator but were told by a security person that this old timer was finally caught, just this spring. It made me sad. I know this gator could have posed a threat, but I hate to think about his fate -- the CM didn't seem to think he had been "relocated." I think gators are no longer "endangered," right? In any case, we were glad ot see the "golf course gator."

He is very much real and it is against the law to feed him. Last summer during our stay at the BCV, Disney animal control was over watching him.

They have removed him once, only for him to make his way back to the villas. This is due to people feeding him.

The really sad thing is when humans feed the gators they become more aggressive toward humans. They want the easy feed. Usually this ends up meaning he will have to be destroyed.

We stayed at BCV in Oct and I didn't see him then.

The law is that gators can't be moved until they are either 4 or 5 ft long - I can't remember which it is. Disney regularly moves them once they reach the limit. I was told this by a CM at CSR and one at the MK. The CSR CM said to never let kids go down near the water in the lake there.

We were at the MK once, having lunch on the dock behind the hot dog place near Splash Mtn. (It's where the second bridge crosses - after the logs comes down, they make a turn there.)

A guy showed up with all his gator-catchin' things. He was trying to get the one that was floating under the bridge we were on. He told us they had been trying to catch her for a while, and that she hung around there because all the birds hung around there because the humans fed the birds there. Said there had been many not-so "Disney Moments" when the gator caught birds. They had named her, but I have forgotten the name . He confirmed that they move them once they reach a certain size. He said they had already removed one from there and then she showed up later.

They have a crew all trained just for gators.

Kathleena, your Splash mountain gator is the very one we were looking for... evidently the critter eluded them for a long time. I hope they did catch it and release it. The CM who spoke to me mentioned "it's an alligator purse now" and I was NOT happy... Hope he was just joking!

Sorry to say if an alligator is persistent in going back to area that it has been removed from before, then most times it ends up having to be destroyed.

The time that we were at the MK was October 2000, so if that one is still around, then she is indeed a smarty!
