Called my guy yesterday about adding on to my AKV contract. The price is $130 per point. That's much higher than my original purchase. Any thoughts as to why the per point offernig now is over 25% higher than initial offering price?

Wow I haven't heard it that high, but I haven't really checked into it either.

Can/would you consider resale? It's less then that now sitting around $65-$70 pp

They bumped the price to cover the cost of the free points sales gimmick.

The free points aren't really free.

That's standard operating procedure with timeshares. They have scheduled increases built into the pricing so that it is always lowest at first offering and as inventory decreases, prices go up. It's a little supply/demand economics at work as well as a huge motivator to spur people into action. "Buy now before the price goes up!" is a quote I've heard from timeshare salespeople about a million times.

Wow - $130 is a lot higher than I would have thought - there's no shortage of resale AKV's available as well.

what did akv pricing start out at?

From what I found in 2008 they were going from $104 pp and I seem to recall back in 2007 they were under $100 pp since that's when we first considered buying in. These prices are not resale.

In 2008 we added some AKV points direct at $96.00 PP.

AKV started sale to existing DVC members on February 1, 2007. It was priced at $101 per point with an $8 discount for a minimum purchase of 50 points - so AKV opened at $93 per point.

In March 2007, sales opened to the public with a price increse to $104. There was still an $8 discount available for a minimum purchase of 160 points for new members (similar discount was available to exisitng members for 50 or more points).

Jambo House AKV opened on July 2, 2007. GCV was announced in summer, 2007 - Aulina was announced fall, 2007 - September, 2008 BLT was "officially" announced with sale s beginning the next week at $112 per point with a $5 discount for new members. General sales began October, 2008.

THV was announced in September, 2008. AKV price was increased to $112 per point (plus discount) on January 15, 2009.

This chronology can all be found in the DVC Resource Center.

I believe it's called the P.T. Barnum principal.

Griz
(P.T. Barnum is quoted as having said "There's a sucker born every minute".... sorry... couldn't resist...)

I have to say, given that most BLT resale contracts are selling in the 90s...picking up a bunch of 50 pointers direct at $107 a piece would've been a pretty good deal.

So according to the current promotions, DVC members can buy AKV at $130 less $6 discount for a net of $124 per point. If I buy 100 points that $12,400,but I get 120 points for a 100 point buy in, so the actual cost is $103.33 per point? Correct?

Still much more than resale, but very close to our original purchase of $98 per point.....
