Hi All!

Sorry for the long introduction, but here goes.

So my husband and I are going to the World for W&D weekend! We asked his cousin and friend to come with us, but of course, at the 7 month mark, neither of them registered for the race or really 'committed' so we booked SSR as they are a race hotel (and BWV was sold out) and got a one bedroom. I asked DH at the time if we should just go with OKW because they had the sleeper couch and sofa and he assured me both would not go. Well, W&D is 91% full now so they BOTH sign up. Ugh. So now we have 4 people in a room with 2 beds. DH said we shoudl pair up boys/girls but, yes I know this is horrible to say, I pay alot of money for my DVC membership and we give up some things to have it, I'm not about to share a bed with someone that isn't my husband (heck, if I just slept on the king bed and he slept on the floor, I might not complain that loudly, I like big beds and spreading out!). DH now says we have to waitlist OKW or buy an airmatress.

OKW is sold out for the weekend but I checked AKV, Jambo house, and its open for all by Friday night (we come in Thursday and we need it until the following Thursday, and then just DH and I will move to a studio somewhere).

Now I don't know what to do and my stressing (and annoyance that no one could guarantee they were going to come at the 7 mark point - type a anyone) is annoying my DH, so I thought I'd ask here. What is our best option. Should be buy a full/queen airmatress and squeeze it into the SSR (which is a race resort so we have no transportation issues), book AKV and pray to all the gods that that one night opens up, keep my waitlist at OKW and hope that comes through and deal with renting a car/taking a cab to get to the race.

Sorry for being so long winded and thanks for following along and for any advice. I'm aware I'm a type A nutbag, but I've accepted and love it!

Add on - the friend and cousin do know each other and are comfortable sharing sleeping quarters, however they won't be sharing a bed (no b/f g/f issues, cousin is a bit older than friend but friend and DH recently went to stay with her and her family and run a half marathon with her). The friend said he's fine with the air matress, but I'm more concerned about the actual space for the air matress, which is why I would rather the couch/chair combo.

I'm unclear as to the relationship, ages or even genders of this "cousin and friend".

Do these people know each other? Are they related? Are they old friends? Are they boyfriend & girlfriend?

Giving up the king bed is not an option. That's for you and your husband.

Assuming these other two do not want to share a bed, an airbed seems like the only option. As for who buys the airbed and who sleeps on it, that's TBD.

I'd get everyone together and hash out the details. Make sure these other two people know each other, know they will be sharing the living room as a bedroom for a few days, figure out who is sleeping where, etc.

I'd stay on the waitlist for OKW and you could go on the waitlist for AKV for the entire stay, too. Don't know that I would be willing to give up a room for the entire trip to book days that are available now. Your guests can make do if the waitlist doesn't come through.

Thanks for the advice! The friend and cousin do know each other and the issue isn't sleeping in the same room. I guess I'm most concerned about where the airmatress would actually go! I'm leaning towards just hoping the OKW wait list comes through!

I would go with the air mattress option.

W&D weekend is very busy...it's Jersey week, end of F&W, and the art show also. I had friends last year whose had a room but their waitlist never came thru so I wouldn't count on moving or getting the night you're missing.

Just get a twin air mattress. It will fit somewhere between the living room and kitchen.

Thanks! I'm sorry your friend's waitlst didn't come through, I just want realistic expectations. Last time I went for W&D weekend in 2011, we were at SSR then too, but in a value so I guess I should have thought of that!

I've used a twin air mattress in a one bedroom at SSR. It fit between the windows and the pull-out couch. My son and his friend didn't want to share the sleeper couch. It worked out fine. I bought an inexpensive twin air mattress and a separate inflator at Walmart. We bought down sheets and a blanket and used a pillow from the master bedroom.

Get the air mattress.

Never, ever inconvenience yourself because someone else has inconvenienced you.

I would consider two twin air matresses and leave the couch folded up. That should give everyone plenty of room. There's also not the issue of who gets the couch and who gets the floor.

We decided long ago that we enjoyed inviting friends to join us at DVC, but we would never give up the master under any circumstances. I'm right there with the OP on not giving up the king-sized bed.

What I don't understand is why the OP is the one trying to solve this. Keep your reservation, and ask your guests to adjust accordingly. As the issue was caused by them not being able to commit early enough, I'd personally let them sort it out. Send them both an email that basically says, hey guys, sorry but because we didn't know soon enough, the villa we have only has a full-sized pull out couch in the living room. Everything else is now booked. If you're cool with sharing the fold-out, you're good to go. If you'd like a little more room, suggest one or both of you bring an inflatable matress with you. A twin size is about all that will fit in the room if the couch is open. There'd be a little more room if you were both on air matresses. Please coordinate with one-another.

We used a twin air mattress in a 1 bedroom at SSR. We were able to put it in the little area by the front door - it ended up being kind of a separate area from the sleeper sofa in the den.
