A first for us... Normally we book 11 months out at our home resort; Boardwalk/Poly, but we planned a short 2 night trip at the end of the month at OKW, but i was just notified our waitlist came through for Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo House Savannah view! I haven't stayed or visited at AKV yet, and I'm so excited! Any tips, tricks, and what to look for at the resort? We do have a car rental for this stay because we want to maximize our stay.

An amazing resort, "unique" in the true meaning of the word.
I bought DVC because I wanted to stay there, and I have stayed so far 5 times. It never gets old!
The biggest suggestion I would make is schedule time to just be at the resort. There is so much to see! And every night there are activities, including lectures by the Cultural Representatives.
I suggest looking up on-line the published schedule and see what's available as far as activities, so you're not overwhelmed when you arrive.

Jambo House is considered to have an excellent swimming pool. Kidani is considered to have an excellent pool for children. There is a shuttle bus that runs continuously between Kidani and Jambo house. Round trips are about every 10 or 15 minutes. You could also walk, but the walking distance is over 1/4 mile. I mention the resort shuttle because you might want to go to the pool at the other building, or go to Sanaa restaurant at Kidani. An excellent African/Indian/American fusion restaurant.

We have stayed at Jambo House at AKL twice - once in a 1 BRV Savannah and once in a Studio Savannah. I would definitely try to get near an elevator as the walks can be dreadfully long. You tend to see more animals in the early morning and early evening when they are feeding and more active. Last year there weren't many animals at all and we never understood why - unless they were just being "animals" and were sick of us humans! I agree with the advice to spend time just soaking up the ambiance of this amazing resort AND the pool is awesome with "bubbling" springs. We always have dinner at BOMA and you can often get reservations just by checking in with the folks at the desk since you are staying in the resort. Make sure you try Zebra Domes... We went for a special lunch with a giraffe expert several years ago at Kidani and we found the CM far more interesting than the food...Kidani just doesn't do it for us. Enjoy!
