Checked into 5265, 1BR on Sunset Savanna on 6/29. At 6 pm the check-in line was long, it took awhile to get to the front. I had requested Arusha view and was given Sunset - should have rejected it outright as detailed on the thread about the savanna views during construction. However we stayed.
Room itself was very nice, we tried to concentrate on that instead of how much we hated ourselves for spending extra points on a construction view. It was well laid out and had everything we need. Based on previous posts I wasn't expecting much from the bathroom so was pleasantly surprised by how spacious and it was. I really like the kitchen layout with the freestanding island. The good smells of Boma and Jiko were everywhere around the resort.
Staff was a mixed bag - bell services was supremely unhelpful, but the valet guys out front were great especially Carlos. I need to find out how to contact the day manager (Ryan - Riann? a woman), who sent up really nice little gifts for my kids after their birthday box was ignored by the aforementioned bell services for 8 hours after it was delivered downstairs, despite numerous promises that it was on its way up. Front desk staff was overwhelmed.
Uzima pool was really, really crowded. We still had a good time there but in the afternoons you could not get a chair. The second DVC pool is much needed.
My son (11) went to Simba's Cubhouse one night, I wasn't sure whether he would like it but he had a great time and asked to go back again before he is officially too old.
On July 4th we had ressies at 'Ohana, traffic unbelievable getting over there and the Poly was an absolute zoo. The food was entirely forgettable but the fireworks were spectacular, piped into the dining room and we had a great view.
We enjoyed our stay but service-wise this resort seems to be having growing pains, with perhaps higher occupancy rates now that it is DVC. It did not seem to be up to the standard of others such as BWV.
