We are at AKV this week. We have a savannah studio 5457 in the Uzima Savannah on Zebra trail. The view from our room is spectacular:woohoo: ....saw Eland, giraffes, antelope, spoonbills etc. The only negative is closet space - half of the wardrobe is vacuum and ironing board which I do not think is needed in a studio IMHO. Your clothes get squashed in the other half of the wardrobe. The decor in the room and the lodge is beautiful. It has been raining the last two days but the animals don't seem to mind.

I would definitely stay here again:thumbsup2 ..........we walked around the lodge and hit all the trails indoors - Kudu, Giraffe, Ostrich, Zebra. As long as you have a savannah view we didn't think any of them were bad at all. We saw animals in all of them. At Sunset Savannah the new baby zebra roams around with her mom - she is so cute. The new baby giraffe will not be put on the savannah for a while because she is too young - according to one of the guides we asked. The animals seems very curious about the construction going on across the fence from where they are.

We ate at Boma - spectacular food! We tried a little of everything....make sure to save room for dessert because they are very good. Didn't try the soups but we had one of the soups for lunch at Mara and it was very good. I am not one to try new foods but I decided this trip to do it and I am glad I did because the food in Boma is great. We want to try the breakfast sometime this week.

One tidbit - no one at check in told us that the DVC laundry is on the 5fl by the lobby end of Zebra trail:laundy: . It is not listed in the literature you get at check in. I found out the hard way - I went to the one listed in literature you get and had to pay $2 for wash. I went back to the room and called the front desk and asked why there were no free laundry services for DVC members. She said there were and I asked where and she had to go ask someone and got back to me with 5fl - Zebra Trail - by the lobby. You need your room key to access it.

Hope to get to use the pool this week if it stops raining:mad: All in all this is a beautiful place and we plan on exploring it some more this week

Thank you for the laundry room tip. I'm glad you're enjoying AKV so much!

Thanks so much about the laundry room info. I'm staying at DAKV in 3 weeks, so I'm writing down the location of the laundry. And a baby zebra-how cute! I signed up for the sunset safari there, so I hope I get to see the baby up close.

I'd love to hear more from you, Marie, on your stay! We stayed at VWL last year and were going to wait a few years before going back to Disney, but we had such a good time we're thinking now of going back in either June or September, and we want to try AKL. Any more info on the Lodge in general and the Savannah studio rooms in particular would be much appreciated! Enjoy your stay!!!!!

It has been raining the last two days but you can find plenty to do. The crafts here are wonderful - today they had paint your own tee shirt for $15. Thought it was just for kids so we didn't participate - found out later that anyone can do it. We saw some of the shirts around the villa and they looked beautiful. Tomorrow it is paint your own magnets.

We have been to all the DVC resorts - including Vero and HH and I must say I am convinced that AKL is our favorite. Today because of the rain Boma was not taking reservations but taking people as they came in. We ate at Mara tonight because Boma was just too crowded. The food here is really good - a little spicy but tasty. They also have regular food too ie hamburgers, fries, fried shrimp, pizza, m&c etc.

The CM have been friendly and helpful. We will try the bus service tomorrow and we hope to get to AK and Epcot because we love the flower show there and have gone every year if the weather improves. If you have any questions just ask and I will try to find out. The resort is at full capacity now. We are here all week and leave on Saturday.

We are going to stay there for the first time in June/July for 19 nights:woohoo: :yay:   We are so excited, we can't contain ourselves! We will be staying in 3 different accomodations - studio (7 nights), 1 br (7 nights), 2br (5 nights) - all value rooms. I hope that moving 2 times won't be too difficult. I know that they will do it for us but we tend to have stuff all over the place in the room (2 adults, 3 kids) so sometimes it's tuff to stay organized to move. I'm hoping that when we move to the one bedroom that they will be able to have us just open up into the studio next door to make a 2br when it comes time to move to a 2br. That would be so much easier. So I guess my question to you is, do you happen to know if the value 2br are mostly dedicated or lock-offs? I'm hoping that they have mostly lock-offs so that we may not have to move from our 1br to our 2br and only have to open to that studio next door to make our 2br. Thanks if your able to answer this question:thumbsup2 I hope you are enjoying your time and get better weather:)

Looking at these 2 posts:

It looks as if the breakdown of the value studios is 2 SV, 2 pool and 4 parking lot. (someone correct me if I am wrong, please! ;) )

Thank you, LisaS, for both of those posts! I have them bookmarked and refer to them often! :teacher:

When we stayed at AKV in December DH was told by the Concierge that there WASN'T a laundry room for DVC members and that we had to use the paid ones until the new building was finished! I am still shaking my head over that one! If only I had my laptop with me on that trip I could have found the answer on these boards...

Thanks for the information We are staying at AKL for 2 nights end of July for cash and I'm so excited it will be our first time there.

We just got back from staying at AKL. Its really awesome. I just liked to walk around and look at the details. Spectacular.

The laundry room for DVC members is on the fifth floor. Take the elevator from the to the fifth floor, walk past the bridge which will be on your left. Keep walking and a few doors on your right will be the laundry room. You have to have a DVC key to get in. It has a nice TV in there and soap supplies. A CM gave us some soap even though we had brought our own. No charge to use the washer and dryer.

Boma was good but we liked Jiko's better. We just don't like buffets. Boma's food was very good we stuffed ourself since there was so many different foods to try. But Jiko's does not have the noise and bustle. In the end the price was the same for both.

If you have kids check out Simba's clubhouse. Its expensive at $11 per kid but our DD's loved the place. The staff was execellent. Simba's was a highlight for our kids.

Can't wait to go back to AKL.....

Hello I will be at ALV in July Can you post a picture or answer a question about the desk in room. I would like to know about the table or desk is there a bar across were I could lock my laptop around. I would like to use my cable lock in BCV there is part of the desk that you can put it around so Housekepping would have to break the desk to take the laptop. Or can you tell me if the save in the room would fit the laptop in? Thank you.

the laundry mat for DVC is almost next to studio 5408. so look for that if you need too.

the front desk did not know about this for the first few months.

it looks like all the DVC laundry mats in the shared resorts - are now gone off the maps.

have no idea why?

There is no desk in our studio - there is small round table with 2 chairs - a wardrobe - dresser with TV over it - a bench seat. The safe would not hold laptop - it is not that big. I brought my laptop and left it in one of the drawers with some clothes over it. There is a heavy end table with lamp on it that you could put cable lock around. I can send you pictures of the room if you can tell me how to do that - I am not familiar with posting pictures here.

posting photo.

We upload our photos to www.photobucket.com. We have the free basic account. From there just copy and paste the link.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks - I will try that. Also, I measured the safe in the room and it will fit a thin laptop- not much else will fit in safe with it but a laptop will fit. I have Dell Inspiron and it fit - I was surprised because looking at it you wouldn't think so.
