I was told that the new AKV building will most certainly be a completely seperate resort, not attached to the current AKL. There will be some "challenges" regarding check in w/ some rooms being in the current lodge.

The models didn't have a definite date yet, but at Welcome Home Wednesday, they announced that they would be open next week. The person I talked to said "hopefully" Monday (we're leaving Wednesday), but couldn't say for certain.

I hope that doesn't mean people will be playing Russian Roullette with their check-in locations. i.e. they won't just give you a ressie for a room and not tell you which building you're confirmed to. That'll be very messy.

Hmm, particularly if you have family or friends with you.

Interesting...

We stopped by on Monday and asked about floor layouts or model rooms and the DVC counter had NO INFORMATION. They made it sound like it was a ways off still.

We will keep our eyes and ears open and try to snap some pictures if they do open the models next week.

We are here thru at least next Friday, March 9th.

Good news about the model rooms! I hope someone will post photos here on the boards!!

I don't get there until April 29, so they SHOULD be open by then!

Somehow I can't believe that Disney's attention to guest experience would miss something so simple. I'm betting that they will figure this out before they open the new building.

Then I guess I'm not the only one anxiously scanning these boards for a report...........................:rolleyes1

For this May's trip, one of our objectives is to see those models at SSR.:thumbsup2 I'm sure we'll have reports before then, but if not, I'll take notes (no pics, since I have no idea how to transfer photos to a computer :sad2: ).

AKV=Ketchup..............AN-TI-CI-PA-TION :laughing:

Great, Pat! Of course, we expect pictures, y'know....

:)

Yes, lots of pictures and a full report! Right now there are so many unanswered questions-like what EXACTLY is opening in September, and what's the difference between the value and the standard, and what are the views, etc. We'd be soooo grateful for any tidbits of info you can bring us. Thanks!

We're actually going to ask our guide to do us a favor once the models open....I'm hoping he'll comply.

When we talk to him on Monday, we're going to see if he'd be willing to snap some digital photos and send them our way. Here's hoping...

I think this is a good idea. Since no actual floorplans have been released via the internet or hard copies I think guides should comply to this request.

I can't believe no floorplans have been released yet besides the one posted by the Florida utility commission (I think that's who it was). They've been selling this product over a month and I'm sure someone knows what the rooms will look like.

Well, of course SOMEONE does. :)

Our guide did say he'd seen the finished rooms last weekend and they were gorgeous. Of course, that's coming FROM a guide, but...well....I trust him on this one, all things considered.

We're not crazy about the lack of disclosure and even considered cancelling our contract to wait for more info. But we decided ultimately to place msome reliance on DVC's reputation on this one. I think $93 with only $1.50 pp dues on the 2007 points is as good a deal as we will see at AKV. That's better than 15% off $104 with only 2008 points. We'll see...

For those of you that have been around to see other new DVC resorts open, is this lack of official information normal after Disney has begun selling?

I think it is. Even with SSR, we knew very little until the resort opened.

I talked to my guide last night and she toured the model y-day. She said the model is the Kidana 2 bedroom lock off, so you can see the studio, 1 bed and 2bed. The 1 bed has the 2nd full Bath. She said Kidana is in the new bldg and will not open until 2008-09. The path to the main bldg goes around the savannah and is about 1/2 mile walk from lobby to lobby. There will be Valet for both bldgs! She also said the larger units will be in the DVC bldg and the Grand Villas will be 2 story.
The GV in the AKL main bldg will be 1 level similar to BWV GV's. She said the tile work in the bathrooms are gorgeous and it has a large soaking tub in the 2nd bath. From her description, the layout sounds similar to the 1 bedroom suite we stayed at in Vegas (Mandalay Bay-Thehotel)

Oh she said the models will most likely be open from 5-7pm. I will be there in 15 days so I will definitely check it out!!

I just took a survey on dvcmember.com and voiced this exact same concern, but we don't have a contract on AKV. But still I think it is pretty weird for them to say-"Hey, you can buy AKV now" and then give virtually no info about it. On the first day of sales official points charts were not even posted- but that didn't stop people from buying- so I guess DVC figures it isn't that important- 1 month later and still no official floorplans! I am just so DANG curious!

I'd say that's a safe bet. :thumbsup2

It will be interesting to learn more about this resort. It appears to be a departure from the previous ones in a few ways and might be representative of how Disney is looking to continue to expand DVC.
