Does anyone know where I can find a map of the Animal Kingdom Lodge? Trying to get an idea of whether I want to try to get in a certain area or not, but it's our first trip there! 18 days and counting!
The Concierge Villas are on the 6th floor. They run along both sides of the lobby (the pink area of the map). There are five 2BR lockoffs. Three of them face the Sunset Savanna (room number range 6201-6209 on the map), the other two face the pool area (room number range 6401-6406 on the map). You can request a savanna view but it is just a request -- you could get assigned to either a savanna view or a pool view.
The savanna view from the 6th floor is not that great. The tree tops block a lot of the view. There are times when there are animals near by but you cannot see them due to the tree tops. Also you are in a small corner of the Sunset Savanna and the animals tend to come into that area mostly during feeding time. We did see some animals but in my opinion the animal viewing is better on the lower floors.
Thanks Lisa. Another question...we are in a 2 bedroom non-concierge. Are these rooms on an upper floor or lower floors too? We've not stayed here and I'm trying to figure out if I should call and ask for a certain area/floor.

The 6th floor is all Concierge. The non-Concierge rooms are on the 5th floor. If you booked a Value room, it will be on either the Giraffe or Ostrich trails (the two short hallways that run along the front of the resort). If you booked a Standard View room, it will be on the part of the Zebra Trail closest to the lobby (the rooms facing the pool area). If you booked a Savanna View room, it will be on the Zebra or Kudu Trail on the 5th floor.
I have read and seen pictures of pool view rooms with views of the roof areas. Are these rare or pretty common? What are our chances in a regular standard view room to have a really good view of the pool area? I don't mind trees but I think I'd be mighty disappointed with a view of the roof. I have bad knees so I'll probably be in the room more than the rest of the family who do the parks from open to close.
As you can see from this aerial view, if your room is located along the side of the lobby or on the lobby end of the first building segment from the lobby then the roof will interfere with at least part of your view.

Lisa, you are such an expert on AKV! What would we all do without you? I'm wondering, is there any way you can request not to be in those areas? How would a request like that be worded, do you know? Thanks so much!
You could try requesting a room number of 5424 or higher. That would put you in the second building segment from the lobby or somewhere along that first spur off the Zebra Trail.

Got it. I will do just that tomorrow morning. I can't thank you enough for your help Lisa. Now if I can find a way to get these bad knees in and out of that deep tub I should be a-okay. LoL
It's less of a problem on the 5th floor because you will be about 10 feet lower down, so you will be able to see under a lot of the tree canopy. It's a concern with the savanna view Concierge rooms because in addition to being higher up, you are in a small corner of the Sunset Savanna so your field of view is more limited. If your room is further out you have a wider field of view so it's less of a problem.
I don't but this link will take you to the web site I used to get that image. Once it loads you can zoom in another level, drag the image with your mouse to see different areas and you can even rotate the image by clicking on the letters N, S, E or W in the upper left corner so that you see the resort from different angles.
