DH and I are gonna be buying AKV here soon and we have plans to go December 2009. We took the tour and we fell in LOVE with the 1 bedroom. The studio looked like a upgraded room of the room we had at AKL and that was it. So we are gonna be buying 160 points. It just DH and I. So which would you do? Stay at the studio and possibly go again in 2010 or stay in the 1 bedroom and borrow points from 2010 and not go again until 2011? Theres no guarentee that we will even make it back down in 2010 and most likely wouldnt go again until 2011. But then if we go with a studio this time around in 2009, dont go again in 2010 and bank our points, and go in 2011 we can do the 1 bedroom then. Oh what to do!! :rotfl: What would you do?

I'd say studio. But then again, I'm a points miser... I'd rather use less points and have more chances to stay, and I'm OK with the fact that the studio is basically a hotel room that's been "upgraded."

I would have to asking you- Do you plan on cooking and eating in the room? Do you like to spend time in your room? Do you want the king size bed or the washer/dryer?:confused3

I sometimes stay in a two bedroom, a one bedroom and sometime a studio. It all depends on what I am planning for that trip.

I love the one bedroom but, I also love to save points and go more often. I also will switch types of rooms for part of the same stay. This lets me enjoy both and purchase the DDP for only part of my stay. :teacher:

We dont plan on cooking but we would eat breakfast in the room like ceral, muffins, etc. just so we can save money. There would be a couple days we would go to like Boma and Crystal Palace but I think that would be it. The rest of the trip would be eating in the room for breakfast. Lunch and Dinner would be at the parks. Being its our 1st time going during the holiday season, we would spend most of our time in the parks, but we would also have 2 days where we would probably finish up AK and then head back to the resort, and the other day spend half the day at the resort and the other half in DHS. And then we would have a DTD / Washing / Resort day. We would wash and then head on down to DTD for maybe 2 or 3 hrs and then head back. So all in all it would be three 1/2 days at the resort and the rest in the parks. So yes we would DEF. be using the washer and dryer. Which I love the fact its right there in your room. You dont have to go out. As for the size of the bed, that really doesnt matter to us. We're happy as long as the bed is nice and comfy. I keep thinking about that bathroom in the 1 bedroom :cloud9:  :rotfl:

For us, it would be the 1 bedroom. Washer/Dryer, full kitchen, jacuzzi tub, two TVs (and more importantly, two remotes, LOL) and king size bed make the time spent at the resort much more comfortable. These days the ability to pack light is a HUGE plus!

Enjoy your stay.

Very often, our vacations turn into family/friends vacation. However, if the 2 of us are just getting away for the 5 weekday nights, we will go for a 1 bedroom.

MANY posters say in "regret threads" that they wished they had never stayed in a one bedroom because now they are bummed when they have to stay in a studio. Most will tell you that a DVC studio at WDW is better than a mansion anywhere else, but unless you plan to be able to stay in a one bedroom regularly (can you say add-on?), you may not want to get that one bedroom right off the bat.

And while the following may be slightly off topic, I think it is relavent based upon the background of your question. DH and I always stay in a one bedroom, but (without sounding snobby) we bought enough points from the outset to do so. We didn't see the point in paying thousands for a basic hotel room, but that is us. If you are really going to be disappointed to stay in a studio, then you may need to rethink your purchase. As much as you are paying, why buy something that doesn't thrill you? If you are paying cash (and most would tell you financing a vacation is financial folly), just wait until you can buy enough to stay the way you want, when you want, and where you want instead of simply purchasing the DVC minimum.

You can easily do breakfasts in a studio. You'll have a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave in the kitchenette.

I'd go with the studio this time and then bank your '10 points into '11 and stay in the 1BR then. I always try to work my way up to things and would rather upgrade to the 1BR after staying in the Studio.

If it were just DH and I we'd stay in a studio every time. Then again, like nytimez I'm a points-miser.

Personally, we would choose a 1 bdrm, but in your case if you are going to be spending much/most of your time at the parks and eating most meals at the parks then maybe a studio would be best for you. Especially if it means skipping a year. Also, don't forget to look at the other resorts OKW, HHI, VB, etc. you will find that you can stretch those points further at certain times/resorts. I'm talking about down the road. I'm sure you will want your first visit(s) to be AKV.
