We recently returned, and were looking for others experiences and thoughts on their stay.

We have not stayed on the concierge level yet but I just booked our reservations for 5 nights next August. Were you not satisfied or disappointed with some aspect(s) of your stay? I've only read positive things about members' concierge trips. Hopefully your trip was wonderful as well.

We enjoyed our stay, but witnessed poor behavior by several DVC members. Although the offerings were plentiful, guests seemed to take advantage of the services. We saw everything from guests sticking beer in their pant pockets, filling up coolers for later and taking plates full of food for later. I am afraid if this behavior continues, members will loss the privilege to book concierge in the future.

I stayed there in June with 3 friends. We did see people grabbing for the food as soon as it came out but it's hard to know if they were members or AKL guests. Remember DVC only has 5 lockoffs, so the majority of the people in concierge are non-DVC. DVC owns those rooms, they can't take concierge away for bad behavior.

I am afraid that the people I witnessed were members as I watched a group taking turns, filling up plates with food and taking it back to their room on the 6th floor. I even saw a women pour an entire bottle of wine into her ice bucket and head back to her room.

That is really bad, talk about hogs.

I saw the same behavior when staying there pre-DVC. I don't think it has anything to do with DVC, nor do I think you can assume that only DVC members exhibit this behavior. There will always be some who take advantage of a situation, especially when the word "complimentary" applies.

As for filling coolers for later, that is perfectly acceptable as long as you aren't depriving others. In fact, when we stayed there the Concierge CMs regularly asked us if we needed bottles of water to take to the parks or back to the room for later. They would often bring us out two per person, without us asking them to do so.

We asked about bottled water, they said all they had was the large bottles. When I was there, they would bring out a plate or hor derves (?) or desserts and the first 2 or 3 people would take it all. That's not right when there are many people waiting.

Yes, we witnessed that same thing in March. It didn't even seem to matter to folks that there were others in line behind them. There's no accounting for rude boorish behavior, and I certainly would NOT assume they were DVC members, since I never saw any of them going into the DVC rooms. We rarely were there right as things like desserts etc were brought out, so we didn't get to partake of much of those kinds of things. About all we ever saw was oatmeal, fruit, juices, coffee and tea and sometimes a plate of rice crispy treats would be left.

As for our conceirge level experience....We loved it! We had one of the 1 bedroom units that overlooked the pool. I have read many here who didn't care for those rooms, but we thought they were fine. I actually enjoyed watching the pool area from abovel and we COULD see some savanna animals off beyond the pool on the savanna.

Oh wow!!! And entire bottle of wine into her ice bucket? Hopefully it wasnt red wine AND ice! ;)

On a serious note, thats really tacky and sad. Lets just ASSUME that they weren't DVC members because we dont act that way :)

DVC or not...that is just bad behavior. I dont know how people look at themselves in the mirror sometimes:confused3

Holy cow! :scared1:

We stayed in an AKL concierge room for 3 nights last month and we are booked for 9 nights in a concierge studio villa next August.

I have to say we had good experiences in the lounge, but we weren't there very often and our stay was pretty short. We mostly popped in for breakfast, a snack in the afternoon (cookies and lemonade), and one evening we grabbed a drink before dinner. I am pretty sure we were never around for dessert - we were always at dinner or in the parks.

I would have been really angry to witness such boorish behavior, and I would have been embarrassed that the guilty parties were DVC members (or guests of members). I think I would have started snapping pics and commented loudly about posting them on a thread about rude guests. :rolleyes1

I did not expect to see this type of behavior on the concierge level. I should have taken pictures and posted them like you suggested but did not think about that at the time. My family stayed in a one bedroom with a savana view. The room was fantastic and the staff was excellent!

That's interesting. They must have switched. We haven't been there since 2002 so I shouldn't be surprised that they've made changes. At that time they had bottles of water and soda available and would bring you as many as you'd like. I'm guessing that too many people took advantage of this and so the change was made. It's too bad when the negative actions of a few end up hurting everyone.

I saw some similar rude behavior once when I stayed concierge level at the Polynesian. I hate it when people are rude and behave like that in public. I think that too many folks try to use concierge as a meal replacement plan so they don't have to buy as many meals. The food offerings really aren't intended to substitute for a meal (except maybe for the continental breakfast). They're just meant to be nice appetizer type portions.

Glad to hear that the poor behavior of others didn't spoil your overall experience. We will have a 1BR next August and requested a SV - which savanna did your room overlook?

Just a question for anyone who's stayed on concierge level....if you are in the lounge to get something to eat or drink you aren't allowed to take it back and eat it in your room? Obviously I'm not talking about the rude people who took more than their share and then ran off. Are you supposed to only eat the offerings in the lounge area?

As awful as that behaviour is, it is the responsibility of Disney to ensure the comfort of the guests. The guests should never have to take on that role. I would definitely express my concerns to the concierge staff quietly or go higher up if that does not work:thumbsup2

We took our afternoon snack back to the room each day. Each of us took a small plate with a cookie and a cup of lemonade. I think DH put some potato chips in a bowl, too. Nobody told us we weren't supposed to take the snacks from the lounge area. I am assuming that was OK. We took snacks back to our room at the Poly, too.

The Concierge rooms run along both sides of the lobby so they face either the pool area or the Sunset Savanna.

We took food back to our room, a cookie and a glass of lemonade or one glass of wine each. There were times when the lounge was pretty crowded so I figured it left a table free for someone coming up from the 4th floor.
