AKV.

Is March 2009 the timing when there might not be any animals on the savannahs?

Can someone give me all the info. I just hesitated to book a Sav view studio.

What is the plan during that time? All savannahs - no guarantees? Am I dreaming it?

Just the sunset savannah will get the "points refund call"

To accommodate this important process, animals are not scheduled to be on Sunset Savanna from January 15, 2009, through April 15, 2009. As a reminder, Members and Guests who reserve a savanna-view room during this time will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings include a notation to that affect.

Approximately 30 days prior to arrival, the resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna view room. Affected Members will be notified, and after their stay, will receive a Vacation Point credit reflecting the difference between a savanna view and standard view (no additional compensation will be given).

If this process is not acceptable to you, please consider alternate stay dates or resorts. Also remember that animals on the other savannas can be viewed from multiple public locations at the resort.

so putting a room request in for another savannah will be helpful or not???

My guess is a request will not be helpful as they will assume everyone who booked a savanah room wanted a savanah with animals.

Booking at 11 months - helpful
The later you book, the more likely you will end up in a savanah room with no animals at standard point costs. Frankly since we are already inside the 7 month window, it is a gamble I would not take if I wanted a view of the animals. (and in fact I didn't for our March 09 visit - our home resort is VWL and I chose to stay there even though I would love to try AKV - not worth the risk of switching at 7 months and not getting animals - not to mention I wanted dedicated 2 bedroom and Jamba doesn't have them)

The animals are really not scheduled to be gone the entire period. The animal keepers on the Sunset Safari said that they will keep animals away for a short a period as possible. They have a large window to cover as much ground as possible. That said, the animals on the Sunset Safari are limited already. We had an Eland that didn't move very much and 3 ostrich in love with animal keeper trucks. There are terrific animal viewing areas throughout the AKL resort (Jambo House)

Last January we had a 2 bedroom on the Uzima Savanna and really enjoyed the animals there.

Yes, on our sunset savanna they told us the same thing. I did, however, call and request Uzima for January just in case.

We booked about a month and a half ago for March. What are the names of the other savanna's so I can call and request one, just in case.

Arusha is the 3rd at Jambo.
If you consider Jambo to kinda be shaped like a letter "U" (main building at the bottom) To the left you have Sunset (and Kidani construction) In the middle of the "U" you have Arusha, and on the right you have Uzima.
I think Arusha might seem to be the largest, but it may possible to see other rooms in the distance.
Arusha has the most SV rooms, so generally the most likely request.
Once Kidani is open there will be another savannah with some animals not available in the other 3.

I just want to avoid the whole DVC credit for points during that time period when there will be no animals there.
Can you request a first and a second location?
