I am splitting my week beteen AKLV and WLV in April. Since I have not been to either, do you have advice about room requests or things to be sure to do? This is my first stay as a DVC member so I am very excited!!!!!

you would have already made your room requests when you made your reservations.
For me, I request Arusha savanna at AKV and high floor at VWL (they all have tree views.)

You can call and ADD room requests any time after you make your ressie. I'd say the sooner the better, though.

Here's my standard request for AKV:

Zebra trail, overlooking Arusha Savanna, near the elevator down to the pool.

It puts you about 1/2 way down Zebra trail...I prefer the Arusha Savannah, but you could easily request Uzima, if you've booked Savanna view. But best of all, being near the pool elevator means you can easily get to the pool, mara, the pool bar....heck, I think it's even quicker to go that way and cross the pool area to get to Boma's/Jiko's rather than hoofing it down the trail.

Then, the only real "walking" you have to do is to leave the resort (by going back to the lobby), getting back to your room (from the lobby) or if you want to take a walking tour. For us, it makes using the resort amenities a bit more convenient.

Room view request at AKV depends on which category of room you got. If "value" you may want to request savanna view because some of the values are savanna view(I believe mostly Sunset savanna) while others are parking lot view. If standard view, likely to be pool view but you may want to request pool view anyway. If savanna view, would recommend requesting Arusha savanna view. If concierge, you can request pool view or savanna (only Sunset savanna).

While at AKV I recommend giving Boma's a shot for dinner.

for VWL - lakeside near the elevators - you can ask for a pool view - but there are so few these are generally not granted.

Some of the rooms at WL are FAR from the elevator. Even farther when you are carrying a sleeping 3 year old.
