According to an email I just received. AKV will go to $135/pp and BLT to $165/pp on July 15, 2012.

You beat me to it, I just got the same email. $165 per point for BLT, that is CRAZY. They really must be trying to prime buyers for GFV. :scared1:

I said $175 for GFV awhile ago, and I'm sticking to that number. I would need 400 BLT points for our travel needs (2BR once a year for 7-8 days). At the new price of $165, that's $66,000. Then add in MF's, which will probably cost me an average of $2300 (approx) over the next 10 years. That's approx $90,000 for my next ten years of vacation, with a good portion being paid up front.

That's basically $1300 per night.

It would probably be year 15 before I'm passing the break even point.

Somebody tell me where/who/why/how this makes sense....? Why would people pay these prices?

That's nuts. We paid less than 100 per point with incentives at BLT, and thought that was HIGH. We've got it listed for sale since we're relocating to FL, although I'm having a change of heart and we might keep it.

I cannot imagine paying that kind of money as a premium versus the other resorts.

does that mean the resale cost will go up also

No, direct costs have little to no bearing on what points cost on the resale market. Continual increases in direct prices could drive more folks to the resale market and that could edge prices upward a bit, but that would take a large influx of resale buyers.

Animal Kingom at $135 is really crazy!

How long will AKV take to sell out at those prices?

Perhaps, but I have a different opinion. I think that VGF will star off lower, just like most timeshares do. Granted, it won't be as low as BLT or AKV starting prices, but I think the estimate that it will start in the 150s is a bit too high. I'm thinking more like 120. Only time will tell.

I don't think so. I think that they are actually separate markets, and the forces of supply and demand are what dictate the prices of the resale market and not the costs of the direct market.

For many people, owning DVC is about much more than the money. I'm not one of them, mind you, but there are people who will want to own regardless of cost. The one fact that keeps me focused is that for the time being, I can use OKW points bought for $50 a piece to stay at BLT (or anywhere else for that matter). That (along with the immediate depreciation in the value of the asset) is one of the main factors that keeps me from buying direct.

There are people, however, who think I'm crazy for paying $50 for OKW points when I can simply do an RCI trade to get on property. There are varying degrees of value as well as guaranteedness (yes I just made that word up) of reservations and people have to weigh that against their comfort level. For some people, being able to book at BLT at the 11 month window with their unrestricted points is important. Those people will pay $165 a point.

It's a spectrum, and it's all a matter of finding your place on it.

What are the new incentives these days? What's the real cost for a point?

The 20 "free" points promotion for AKV and Aulani runs out on the 15th and I haven't heard DVD announce anything beyond that.

DVC warns that they will take away the incentives and they see a spike in sales. They wait awhile then warn that they going to raise prices and they see a spike in sales. They raise prices and wait awhile. Then they offer a limited time price incentive and they see a spike in sales. Then the do it all over again.

This is Sales 101. Whether it be a promo, discount, impending increase, it's all the same. They're all calls to action and they all have deadlines. There's nothing sinister or evil about it, either. It's simply effective marketing.

Bill said it before, I think we need to be realistic in that Disney is a corporation and corporations exist to make money. Disney has the added mission of making people happy. But the two aren't mutually exclusive.
