we r staying at AKL (the older section)...we rented poitns from a DVC owner....is there a particular section/room/view we should request? should we make request before our trip or when we check in at resort? we are going April 28-May3.

this is our 1st trip to disney (and going without the kids!)

all the DVC rooms at AKL (jambo house) are on the 5th floor.

the most common complaint about AKL is the long hallways if you are far away from the lobby...

I'm sure you know that you should request a savanna view if you will have enough points to cover it. And I agree -- I would request close to the lobby if you plan to make use of the hotel amenities. Have a great trip!

savanna view is not really a request, though. you either reserved a villa with a savanna view or you didn't...

AKL DVC units have several different bookable categories which cost different numbers of points - do you have a value, standard view, savanna view or club level booked? Which one makes a difference in terms of where you may be, the value units are only on Ostrich and Giraffe trail, for example.
Knowing which one will help us suggest positive/negative locations within that category.

We booked the standard room - studio....the DVC owner told me it wasn't worth the extra points to book savannah view because views are pretty much the same....

Um, I don't consider a view of animals on a savanna outside my balcony (savanna view) to be the 'same' as a view of roofs or the swimming pool (standard in DVC @ Jambo, I believe,) but here's the inventory for a standard studio @ AKL - Jambo

Note, I am assuming you do not have the least expensive pointwise - the value studio, if you were in this category your view could range from parking lot, pool or a savanna view, the difference being the villas are smaller and thus cost less points.

most standard views at jambo house are pool views, IIRC. i think there may have been a few obstructed savanna view rooms moved to the standard classification also.

savanna view can be great but results have varied. there are a number of viewing areas around AKL, so you can see for yourself whether it's worth extra to splurge for savanna view next time. it's a great resort either way.
