AKL, WLR or YCR?

You need to decide what's most important to you. I've stayed at all three. Solely based on the hotel I prefer AKL but would only stay there again if I was spending a lot of time at the resort. The food here is good too. WL only did one night there and liked it a lot but wouldn't do a whole holiday there. Yacht and a beach Club win by a million miles for location and pool and restaurants. But fast food options are pretty rubbish unless you walk to the Boardwalk and the quality of the rooms is substandard compared to AKL, although somewhat bigger. So I think it depends what your priorities are. For a general holiday I'd choose Yacht Club out of your choices.
Thanks that helped a lot as fast food service is important to us and we prefer MK resort restaurants to Epcot hotels. The big draw for the YCR would be for me Epcot but ds doesn't like it so I've ruled out YCR for now. We loved our room in AKL, the atmosphere, the lobby and the buses but not so much the food, terrible service in boma and although food was good in Mara we found it very untidy, messy.

If fast food options are a priority and a good bus service I would actually save some money and stay at POR. Excellent food court and easy access to POFQ food court too. Good bus service, really nice pool and lovely quiet pools. This is actually my favourite resort, including the deluxes, but the rooms are just too small for us now with two teenagers. I have stayed at Riverside three times now (and twice at POFQ) and highly recommend this resort.

Sharon - when we were at Wilderness Lodge last year - the buses sometimes went to the campground - but we never did a loop of the other MK resorts.

On one occasion we did get the boat to Contemporary and then Monorailed to Epcot - but this was just for being able to ride the Disney transport - as it would have been quicker to just get the bus (even with a stop at Fort Wilderness) it is a quick un-congested journey to Epcot/Studios.

From our experience - buses were not an issue at all. Damian and I loved grabbing a counter service flatbread of the day and dessert to share and sitting on the beach watching the water pageant - it may be dated and cheesy but was magical to watch - by far our favourite resort to date.

We've stayed at all three and loved them all! My favourite was the YC simiply for location and the proximity to the Boardwalk. My son adored Stomalong Bay and would go back there in an instant. I agree with others however about the lack of fast food options - we either went to the Market place at the Beach Club or Picabu at the Dolphin if we wanted a quick breakfast. The only other realistic option is the Boardwalk Bakery.

We love the WL - the fast food court at Roaring Forks is excellent and I loved everything about the hotel. We had a great woods view room and the whole atmosphere of the hotel was superb.

AKL is our home 'DVC' resort (although since we bought in we haven't stayed there!) and we've always booked savannah view. It's a beautiful resort, great food choices, superb pool. I thought the location would be a problem as we didn't have a car but the bus service was excellent.

I also agree that POR and POFQ are fabulous resorts. When we first started visiting WDW POR was our resort of choice. We haven't stayed there in years but have booked part of our Easter stay at POFQ.

Good luck with your planning!

Think I'm favouring WLR just a little worried about the buses as we don't drive. Seems to be a lot of people staying the buses go around all the MK resorts and taking ages. Anyone advise on this?

We did find that some resorts took a little longer to get too on the bus, but it was not a major problem. We sometimes went via the campground, sometimes via GF. MK obviously not a problem, and we got the monorail to Epcot via Contemporary/TTC. This worked well for us!

Thanks. We looked at por and have stayed at pofq, it does fit the bill but actually ends up costing more if you upgrade to full ddp.

Thanks Zoe, what room did you stay in, we are looking at standard as with AKL this year. We had a lovely room just above the check in, overlooking the beautiful lobby. Every time we went back to our room I'd stop and say oh, this is wonderful. Hope you get a similar room, you'll love it.

Good choice :) It's a great resort and the pool cannot be beaten for on property pool choices.

Just for information, BCR will enter a 20 months long major refurbishement in a couple of months.

It will be a construction zone just like Polynesian currently is.

announcement was made 2 days ago.

Refurbishment is currently taking place on the 5th floor with little to no impact on guests. When rooms are being refurbished that area will be closed off completly and work usually only takes place between 9am and 5pm,so again guests should not be inconvenienced in anyway.I think the only time we will see anything is when its the lobbys turn.
BC won't be a construction zone as no construction is taking place. It just states it will operate in a similar way to how the Poly is now.
A good place to look for the latest is the 2014 Beach and Yacht Club FAQ page as it has people posting on there who work there.

Hopefully just means the hotel will be quieter and we ll get a newly upgaded room!

Currently choosing between these three resorts for our honeymoon next September so found this very helpful!

What date is the wedding & honeymoon.

Out wedding is August 26th so will likely be flying between 29th and 31st August. We're planning on 10 days in Disney and then a few days in Mexico before flying home :)

I think we're set on YC now because of it's location but I've always wanted to stay at WL so it's been a tough choice! We decided against AKL primarily because of distance.

Don't let AKL distance out you off. Apart from water parks and DTD it's no more than 20 ish minutes anywhere. I stayed there in May and their bus service was the best of anywhere I've stayed. It's a bit further away but not much really. DTD is a pain though. That's 40 minutes.

I second this. Its an amazing resort and we have just changed our 7month window to 5 nights here but staying in jambo this time as always stayed in kidani. Love this place and when people moan about the long transfer and being out the way to MK think of it the other way round. MK resorts to AK. It only syops at blizzard beach I think. i was on the bus longer trying to get from dtd to BW.
