AKL vs Boardwalk

HI, my name is Kenda and I'm a resorts boardaholic. You may remember me from such posts as "should I stay at POR or WL?" or "If I like WL, will I like AKL?". Well, finally after much agonizing ( and I mean A LOT of agonizing) I decided on AKL. I've read posts, I've looked at pictures, I've watch my planning DVD until there is a groove in it (well just kidding, I don't even know if that is possible) and I am totally psyched to stay there. Not 10 minutes after I made our reservations my husband, who up until this point hasn't had any opinion at all, who has told me repeatedly that it was up to me, said "Maybe we should stay at Boardwalk." ARGH! So I'm asking my fellow planning addicts the pros/cons of AKL vs Boardwalk. And maybe the pros/cons of involving your spouse in the trip planning!

Hi, my name is Janet and I am a Disney Addict. ;)

I cannot offer you any advice because you have selected my TWO FAVORITE RESORTS. I am so sorry (I think I need to go back to therapy now).

My #1 resort is the AKL, and my #2 resort is the BWV. There, I've admitted it. ARGGGGGGG!!!! (hee hee)

How 'bout a split stay? That way you get the best of both Worlds (as in Disney). Just something to think about (and mess up your vacation planning a little more). ;)

Hee-hee, Janet my spouse doesn't actually check out anything on the internet, he just makes comments to make me second-guess all my decisions! I will go check out that link though, because I have some sick obsession with driving myself crazy!!

Wdwnut2, you asked for some Pro's and Con's. Here goes...

Con of staying at BW: the clown-faced pool is very scary at night. ;)
Con of staying at AKL: it’s so relaxing, you won’t want to leave.

Pro of staying at BW: you’re right between Epcot and Disney Studios.
Pro of staying at AKL: it’s like nothing you’ll ever experience again – where else can you sleep with a zebra or kudu beneath your balcony?

Biggest con of staying at the AKL:

If anything goes wrong, your DH wil be able to say "I told you we should have stayed at the Boardwalk!" :teeth: :p

On the other hand, if you graciously agree to stay at the Boardwalk (and it's a great resort, too), if your DH makes even the slightest negative comment, you can sweetly say: "Well darling, I did plan for us to stay at the AKL, but since you wanted to stay at the Boardwalk......."

The good news is that you will have a great time no matter which resort you choose! Have fun planning and try not to make yourself crazy while you're doing it! :D :D

My DH is in on all the planning that's why I had to plan a trip to AKL without him!

I loved both resorts, but since I have a DS with special needs we go with the BWI most of the time, the transportation to 2 parks is much easier for us.

Now if I were you I would try for a split stay!!

Well, if you look at my sig you will see that we could not decide on which resort either - so we are going to both! :)

We are trying AKL since it's off the beaten path, so to speak. But we also want to be at the Boardwalk since EPCOT is our favorite park. (We have stayed at the BC & YC and we love that area)

So why not split your stay and try them both like we will be doing?

Have fun!

Jill

I do not like the BWI but it is always a good idea to split your visit. It can be a pain to pack-up but WDW will move all your stuff for you so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

JESW, you have good taste in music. I find that "changes in latitude" always result in "changes in attitude".

Our trip to Disney, or any other FL destination as far as that goes, begins: "We have a full tank of gas, a Buffett CD in the CD player, and we're on a mission from...well maybe not from God, but on a mission just the same.

Getting off topic a little here-- but couldn't resist.
We drive from New Orleans at least a couple of times of year
and yes, listen to Buffett the entire trip. We always have
Changes in Latitude cued up just in time to turn south from
I-10 to I-75. Guess I have two addictions!! :jester:

To the original subject-- We own at BWV and LOVE it -- so convenient and lovely. Have not ever stayed at AKL buy have
visited and it is beautiful as well. We often split stays- between a
DVC resort and another resort and find it quite easy and FUN.:D

my husband, who up until this point hasn't had any opinion at all, who has told me repeatedly that it was up to me, said "Maybe we should stay at Boardwalk." ARGH! The problem, of course, is these significant others who have absolutely no opinion on anything, have no interest in trip planning, don't even seem interested in going until they get there--- never have an opinion on anything, so when they actually express an opinion we feel we HAVE to oblige. My husband never seems interested in anything, never expresses a desire for future trips, but he has said he would like to stay at the Poly (actually he invariably refers to it as the Tiki-Tiki Hotel.) Of course, he hasn't actually bothered to research the other resorts, just knows this one because we went to the Neverland Club and because he watched World of Disney as a kid. He doesn't ask for much, so Poly it is (ah, yeah, twist my arm. ;) ) But we still might split with the AKL. He'll like that too.

Minnie's Mate...yes, I DO have good taste in music! :) I have been a Buffet fan since back in 1974 the first time I heard A pirate looks at 40. Back when people said - Jimmy who???

But I need to think up a new line for my page. I guess we are safe from no more snow this year...

JESW, I became a fan in the '70's, too. I think the first time I heard Margaritaville. I have most of his CD's loaded in my CD magazine in my car. One of my co-workers has the Disney-Buffett combination addiction (He has a Mickey antenna topper and a Buffett tag on the front of his car). So far, I don't have the Buffett tag, but I do have a red-white-and-blue Mickey antenna topper on my radio antenna and a basic black one on my cell phone antenna; I switch that one out seasonally with Easter, Halloween and Christmas Mickeys.

I recently found out that Jimmy Buffett attended my alma-matta, Auburn University, where he learned to play guitar before he transferred to Southern Miss (?) or Miss. State, I forget.

Anyway, N.O.Parrothead his is the only music I listen to, except Disney music when the kids are in the car with me. The rest of the time I listen to Talk Radio.

Also, I love the fact that you can get Buffett t-shirst at "The Pirates of the Caribbean". I guess even Mickey shares this co-addiction.
