Who's been to the new AKL DVC Villas??? What was your impressions??? what is it like being in the actualy resort just on a different floor??? how does it stack up compared to other DVC resorts??? any info about your experience would be great!!

It was wonderful! Just like AKL is wonderful. I have a trip report around this board somewhere. I'll see if I can find it and link it here.

I loved it and my 2 1/2 daughter really loved it as well. We're going back in May and Jan but won't book a savannah view again until after the construction's complete. Some savannah views are fine and others I'd describe as more "construction view".

We stayed at AKV CL for two nights before our March cruise, DW loves it so much, she asked me to do an AKV add-on.

We stayed at the AKL way back when, but I'm not using points to stay at AKV until Kidani Village opens. I want that separate shower from the tub. Darn, Diane, I'm going to have to change my signature and add, "BUT I really need that separate shower, too."

I just don't want those wonderful views of the National Bird of China-the construction crane.

My kids don't care they want to stay soon, "Samantha Brown loves the place!"

We stayed at the AKL back in December 2006. We loved our stay there and I am sure would love to stay in the DVC units that are now open. Loooove Boma!

We stayed there Dec. 20-26.
Loved it! :thumbsup2
We're going back this summer for 1 night before we check into BCV. Can't wait!!

LOL, Deb! Frankly I prefer the seperate shower too, but CL was so special, that I'll take it once in awhile and "rough it" with the shower in the tub. BTW, those tubs are HUGE!

The OP asked about the feel of the villas being on a different floor of AKL. Actually, the rooms feel very similar to the AKL rooms with the exception that the DVC rooms are definitely an upgrade from the old AKL rooms. Just very well appointed. My only complaint is that I would like the lighting to be better in the bathroom. The compact florescents would be fine if they didn't have the amber colored shade over the lights around the vanity mirror.

 That's my only complaint about VWL. That came to mind when we looked at the models at SSR.

Just back from a 45 night stay... made sure we were looking at zebras, not cranes!
Had a wonderful stay !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will wait now until our building is built- any questions, fire away!

Wow!! That's the longest I ever heard anyone ever staying at Disney (or anywhere for that matter) Do you do that every year?

45 nights! thats a LOT of points!

We just got back from 18 nights... a week at OKW a week at AKL and the remaining days at BCV..

we liked AKV a lot. Its fine being in the main building but its a BIG resort... and a long way from your car!

The rooms in Jambo house are not big, well the bedroom on a 1bedroom in particular is small.. but they are beautiful and everything is really modern with the flat screen tvs etc.

I was very unimpressed with the staff in general at AKL... particular the front desk.. wow.. they just dont know about DVC yet..

The construction was quite noisy if you like to spend time in your room during the day, but obviously not at weekends or evenings. The view was quite interesting watching kidani going up... the resort is going to be huge!

As others have said.. the bath in the tub is an issue. I actually slipped getting into it the first time, whacked my knee on the granite surround of the bath (and sported a giant long bruise there for the rest of the vacation!) and pulled a muscle/tendon on my other foot...so that didnt work for me! :)

If Im honest.. of the three places we stayed, whilst i liked the decor the best, i didnt like the size of it much.. it was such a long way from the lobby..

Still.. it was lovely :)

We stayed in a 1BRSV this past February. There was construction but it was really nice regardless. There was no construction at night so it wasn't noisy. The animals didn't seem to be bothered by it either. Four years ago we stayed in a Deluxe SV room and I think our Savannah experience was just as good (even though last time we had the Arusha Savannah) and this time we had one by the construction. The unit was beautiful! I liked it before and I like it just as much now (really more because of the DVC units). :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

WOW, 45 nights would be a dream come true!!! I don't have anywhere near enough points for that though!

AKV is our hands down favorite! Great theming and the rooms are new and dramatic in design. The huge flat screen rocks! The whole place is total eye candy. We are happy that there will be a lot of AKV rooms to go around once its done!

I went there last year and the one-bedroom unit that I was in was absolutely beautiful.

The only downside -- and this is all of WDW and not just AKL -- was that I went during the height of the lovebug week, so I could not go out and enjoy my balcony.

But the unit was wonderful!

This January we stayed in a 2BR, standard view. It was right near the elevators, above the lobby, and we loved it. We always love the AK resort, but it was especially nice having a villa this time. We barely noticed the construction. We ALL hated that darn tub for showers, though!
