We have a savannah room booked at AKL, and will be checking in on New Years Day. I know the place will be packed, so figure we probably won't get a room on the Arusha Savannah, since it's most requested. That being said, is either one of the other two savannahs preferable to the other, keeping in mind we want to view greenery and animals ... not dirt and empty pens. Thanks!

We have stayed at the AKL six times since it opened in April of 2001 and four of those have been with savanna views. We had the Arusha Savanna twice, the Uzima Savanna once and the Sunset Savanna once. Each was special in there own way. The Wildebeast(sp?) on the Arusha are cool and the one horned Bongo and the babay Giaraffe on the Uzima are great and the Red River Hogs are adorable on the Sunset. Go with the flow and enjoy the animals no matter what savanna you end up with a view of.

I agree with the above post, but uzima would be my next favorite after arusha

I think I would go with Uzima. They have bongos, kudu and tommies - some of my favorites!

While we've only stayed on Arusha Savanah, Uzima would definitely be our next choice. Sunset is rather small compared to the others and if you're near the front, you might overlook a service area. I'm pretty sure I've heard some road noise on Sunset savanah while out taking pictures on the stairs. That would just ruin the whole hunting lodge in the middle of no where theme!

You might be VERY pleasantly surprised to find that a LOT of people will be checking out to go home on New Years Day, and you will get Arusha with no problem.

Because NYE is on a Sunday this year, people will have Monday off which they will use as a travel day to go back home and to work on Tuesday. My guess is that New Years Day will see a LOT of check outs and by mid-afternoon the parks will be pretty much empty.

Oh, I hope so, Anne. Keeping my fingers crossed ... thanks for the encouragement! But, we arrived on New Years Day this year at POFQ, and they were completely booked ... who would think? And to make matters worse, the parks were very crowded for most of the week. Anyhow, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst ... wish us luck!
