AKL upgrade?

I have a quick question. I have seen alot of posts about people staying at the AKL and getting an upgrade to the savannah view. My fiance and I are going to be staying there from May 14 to 20, 2006 in a standard room. How did other people get upgraded when they got to the resort. Is it really just luck? I put on the reservation online that this was our honeymoon. Maybe that will help. Thanks.

We are actually staying at the AKL that same week. I have also seen posts where others were not upgraded during less busy times of the year, so I would go in not expecting anything. The only downside to staying at an AKL standard view room is that you will most likely have a view of a parking lot (this is from my travel agent). We really wanted a Savannah view, so we are paying for one. I think it's definitely just luck, and what kind of mood the CM is in. I would suggest checking in early, and "asking" how much it would be to upgrade to a Savannah view since it's your honeymoon. Maybe they'll throw it in for free, or at a discount. Best wishes, and no matter what, you're at Disney you'll have a great honeymoon.

We oved into the AKL the night before our FTW but never received a room upgrade.
Our balcony sort of looked towards the swimming pool area, but not greatly.

We were happy to stick with it because we were so close to the main entrance and didnt really want to relocate once all the wedding gear had been unpacked.

The wonderful staff in the AKL did recognise the fact that it was our wedding and we were given an upgrade on our package - we had unlimited park passes given to us valid for the entire stay.
We also came back to our room after the wedding and found that Mickey & Minnie had been very kind and pushed a signed photo under our door with Congratulations Mr & Mrs Cook written on. Nice touch !

I just stayed at AKL for one night two weeks ago...my first and only stay there and I think even the non-savannah rooms must be amazing!! I was upgraded and the CM told me that the computer randomly does it based on availability from time to time...didn't exactly sound like any sort of science If you really want the view, take the room...but honestly, there are balconies and walkways and nooks everywhere to take in the view. The view from the room was unforgettable! But I wouldn't pay $80 a night for more than a night or two, personally...

We were upgraded to a savannah view room on our honeymoon. We had paid for a standard room, and were ready to have our view be of the parking lot. After staying in a Savannah view room, I would never stay at AKL without that view again! We loved having the animals outside our room, as DH and I tend to spend a lot of our downtime on our balcony reading, and we also tend to eat breakfast on our balcony. The view was amazing.

As others have said, there are plenty of viewing spots around the resort should you not be upgraded. There are tons of things to do around the resort, and the food at AKL is fantastic. I'm sure you'll enjoy the resort no matter if you are upgraded or not.
