AKL - To Request or Not?????

We are staying at AKL in July. Last year when I made WL ressies I added a room request and received a fab upgrade (though not what we requested).

This time we reserved a Standard View (AP rate) at AKL. We will only by at AKL for 2 nights before transfering to WL so we want to make the most of our time there. So should I try and request something or leave it up to chance? An upgrade would be great but we will understand if we receive what we booked. Would we miss out on a possible upgrade if we request say upper floor close to the lobby/pool area?

I am a BIG believer in faxing a request. It so often works in our favor. Although I personally only make requests "in kind" with the class of room we pay for, what could it hurt to include a phrase thanking the room assignment staff in advance for their consideration in making it a magical stay. Then just cross your fingers. Upgrades are most often received at slower times and mid-week, I find. I would mention if it were the first stay there and if you have children along, how excited they are to see the animals.

You will find 2 nights not enough if you get a savanah view upgrade. We love Zebra Trail, 3rd floor.
