AKL to begin charging $30 premium for arusha savanna views in 2011

DVC would have to come up with a separate booking category and modify the points. Pretty safe to say probably won't happen anytime soon if ever.

DVC would not be able to increase the points required to guarantee a villa on the Arusha Savanna without lowering the points for other villas.

That's interesting. I wouldn't mind paying less pts for a lesser savannah view since it seems like it's hit or miss where you get assigned anyway.

Exactly. It would create an interesting scenario. I wouldn't mind the option of fewer points for non-arusha SV rooms.

Couldn't they make it a booking category, like the BW view rooms at BWV? Those are the same points at the preferred/garden view. Would that not work for AKV as well?

Just curious!

Yes, they could definitely do that without requiring a point reallocation. That would be a nice little 11/7 perk, now that you mention it.

If I was paying cash, I pay more for Arusha.

Think it would do anything to availability for the other views? Possibly more availability since some might be willing to wait or pick another date due to the availability of the Arusha view?

Actually, I disagree that it answers any "best savannah" question. Rather, it seems to me that it answers the "most requested savannah" question.

Exactly, kind of like LeCellier isn't the "best restaurant" but the "most requested ADR." ;)

It's no more different then Pop Century and $10 more for the 60's bldg rooms closest to the pool and main bldg.:sad2:

Conveniently, in this case there happens to be a perfect match there. The new shared sunset savanna is also pretty great.

I found this very interesting; wonder whether it'll become a dedicated AKV booking category down the line. It does definitively answer the "best savanna" question that crops up here ;)

It definitely creates the perception that the Arusha Savanna is "the best" because they are charging more for it. Some people only want "'the best' and they are willing to pay more for it. It's a brilliant move by Disney to create a premium savanna room and it didn't cost them an extra dime to do it. I like the Sunset Savanna myself.

I agree, but I do hope they don't create a seperate point chart for it at AKV/Jambo. There are too many booking catagorys there now as it is!

I agree that there are lots of booking categories.I don't really want anymore. But....OTOH wouldn't it be nice to know which sava view you were reserving BEFORE you get there?

I know I am in the minority here, be we fell in love with the Pembe Savanna last month.

Granted we didn't have giraffes and zebras, but we had just about every other animal - and lots of them!

Best of all - our balcony seemed totally private - we couldn't see anyone else's balcony - at all - because of the curvature of the "beads" on that side of the hallway. Our family right across the hall on the Sunset Savanna could see the balconies of every other room on that side except for those right on top of them or right below them.

We fell in love with our privacy. Yes - that access road is back there, but honestly, during the 10 nights we stayed there - we only saw 4 or 5 vehicles total. It's not like it backs up to I-4, you know?

Pembe is going to be our request from now on.
