just could not pass up the $114 AKL std rate for july.... but have never stayed at AKL without savannah view. How bad will it be??? tried to get WL at that rate (love them both), but no luck!! i have heard that they often overbook std at AKL and give more upgrades to better views....... booked POFQ 6 nts (never done a mod either) and thinking of moving up 2 nts. advice please!! thanks

We did the same thing!! Could not pass up the rate @ AKL - any view will be fine with me, really I am hoping for the bunk beds!

We were booked for a standard view a couple of weeks ago at a Visa discounted rate, and got upgraded to a Savanahh view at check in (didn't ask). The same thing happened to a friend of mine a little later in the week. I think that there are so few rooms with a standard view (I think only 10%?) that you are very likely to get upgraded anyway. Even if you don't it is a beautiful hotel, with lots of places to view the animals. I thought it was a very special place and you will enjoy it either way. Great rate, too!

We did the same thing for June...We have stayed at AKL 3xs in a savannah view...I'm really nervous about the standard view & DD is disappointed...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an upgrade!!!

Unless you are planning on spending alot of time in your room I wouldn't fret about standard view. We had standard views last year during our stay and it really wasn't that bad. For those who have never stayed at AKL there are many places to view animals and the pool area is beautiful too. Our rooms were in Ostrich Trail on the lobby level {3rd floor} and they were nice. There was alot of trees and bushes that covered the view of cars. Maybe the upper floors would see them but we didn't and the area we were in was very quiet. Another nice touch was each night we received turn down service without requesting it. They told us it was complimentary for rooms on the lobby level. It was also wonderful not having far to walk when returning from a long day at the parks. This resort is gorgeous no matter where your rooms are located. Have a great time and maybe you will be lucky and get one of those great upgrades AKL is famous for giving.

I was glad to read your post here. We're staying at AKL in in a standard room and you confirmed what I believe to be true about spending extra $$$ for a room with a view! We can't wait to get there!!!!!!

We had a standard booked for March and had only stayed Savannah. We were upgraded to a pool view and it was great. One thing I found was that not having the SV we really explored the resort much more than before and had a much better time. We are returning in June with a standard booked again. We just love this resort so much we just feel happy and blessed to be there at all!!

I'm glad to hear some positive feedback on the AKL. I was just on another thread and there was some really negative stuff (pool extremely crowded, no good walkways, too many people in lobby and long lines at Mara, etc.) I'm staying there at the end of June with my son (age 10). I made the ressies after the discount codes came out and couldn't pass up the rate. I had originally booked the Swan and my son was extremely that upset that we had to move to the AKL.

We got the AP rate for a pool view at AKL. I had origninally wanted the standard view due to the price, but was told that none were left. How is the pool view?

We are going in July. What do you think my chances will be to be upgraded to savanah view? My son is four and still takes naps. I am guessing that I would love the view.

Any advice?:sunny:
