AKL standard view vs. to WL standard view

I've not stayed at either but since we are currently planning our 2008 summer trip to WDW, AKL and WL were both choices for us and when it came down to deciding between the two, we considered the fact that the WL was so much closer to the Magic Kingdom and the AKL seemed a little further away, obviously because of the animals. We really love animals but I think visiting the Animal Kingdom Park will be sufficient enough and the WL just appeared more bright and cheery because the AKL was more dark furniture, etc. That is just my opinion, and as far at paying extra for special rooms, I think the standard is just fine because most of your time is spent running around the parks so having a set view, just isn't on the top of my priority list. If it works into the plan and we choose a special view room, then fine but if a standard is what we decide on, that is ok too. We are also considering the POFQ/POR resort too as we LOVE the theming there. Goodluckprincess:

I've stayed at both and in a standard view both times. I like both resorts, but the view out the window at my AKL standard was no big deal. Out the window of my WL room was atrocious! If I return to WL, even though we spend very little time at the resort, I won't book standard. I would do so at AKL again.

It's true WL is close to the MK and has great boat service, but it also shares buses with a few other resorts so the trips are just as long as from AKL when you consider all the stops. The buses were also more crowded for this reason.

The rooms at AKL and WL are equally as dark. The resorts have a lot in common in terms of design and both have great restaurants.

In general I like AKL better, but you'll enjoy either one.

Well, for me it really isn't about the view. It's just that I don't want busses and taxis and delivery trucks right outside my balcony window every morning, you know what I mean?:scared:

I have two standard view rooms booked at AKL for the second week in December, and as long as we get Ostrich trail (close to the end and on an upper floor), I think we'll be alright.....I think.:confused3

I don't think you'll know this until your standing at the check in desk. Hope you can live with whatever trail you get!

We'll be at AKL this summer, for $10 more a night we're getting a pool view.

I tried and begged to book pool view, but the CM said there wasn't any available. That could mean that:

1. All the pool view rooms for the week of Dec 7th-14th really are booked, or...

2. The pool view rooms haven't been released for bookings yet, or...

3. You can't book pool view rooms using the 40% off code (which I used), but rather only standard view rooms.

They told me I could not book anything but a standard view at AKL with the 40%. Sounds like we'll be there the same time Dec 7-13, I'm hoping for an upgrade, but some of the standard room are supposed to have a pretty good view.

For 40% off I'd be content to stand outside and look at the view of the pool and not worry so much about the view from our balcony1 :lmao: Congrats on the code and have a great time.

I stayed at AKL last fall, pool view and had a stunning view of.......trees. The trees are large enough now that they obliterate any chance of seeing the pool from some "pool view" rooms.Pool side would be a much better definition of those rooms. I added one more day while there and all that was available was standard, which I took. Got another stunning view of.....trees. Actually the tree view from the standard room was much nicer. Very close up and made you feel you were smack dab in the middle of a jungle.

There are two possible views you could have when you book Standard at WL. In my opinion, it is only worth it if you request a lobby room. These look out over roof peaks. Otherwise, the view will be of the service area. If no lobby rooms were available, I'd rather stay Standard at AKL, as I've heard those rooms may face a parking lot but not an actual service area.

Edit: One possible advantage of a Standard view at WL that overlooks the service area is, if you are on one of the highest floors, you may catch a glimpse of the Wishes fireworks.

Do you remember what area of AKL this standard view room was in? (which trail):)

I don't remember the trail name. But it seemed like the balcony was over the walkway to the bus stop. Trees right up against it with a pretty palm in the middle. I was really satisfied with it.:goodvibes
