AKL Standard rooms?

I REALLY want to stay there, but we would only be able to afford a standard room. How bad is the view? Has anyone asked for an upgrade and been denied? I have always booked standard rooms and asked for views at check-in. It's nver full in August and has never been a problem, but just in case I want to know what to expect.

The standard view is of the parking lot. Try to stay off the ground floor.....I know on the Giraffe Trail side there are tall bushes and the bus stop is right on the other side of it.

Someone else just recently posted that they were given an upgrade from a standard.

Even so, the lodge is beautiful. There are many overlooks to see the animals. I had a savannah view just after it opened and it was awesome. But for the money, I may stay in a standard next time.

Maybe a poolside view is not much more? Worth a try.

Whatever you get be assured you'll love it.

IMO I would take the standard room if that is what you can afford. You can always ask for an upgrade just don't be too dissappointed if you don't get it.

We had a standard room & were upgraded because our requested room w/bunk beds was not ready at 4pm. We were upgraded to pool view.

My only regret is we only spent two nights there and five nights at the Swan. The AKL was so much more enjoyable.

We are staying at AKL in June and booked a standard view because my sister and her family also cannot afford a higher priced room. Does anyone have any good suggested room # or locations for standard and also are there any more "success" stories with being upgraded to pool or savannah. I would love to surprise her if possible- we have stayed in a deluxe savannah last year so we really don't care if our room is upgraded- just hers.

NHbelle, one more thing. Just think how bad can the view be. you will be in WDW. Landscaping is beautiful. Everything looks so nice not like some hotel chains that say standard view & that means pavement. I would just ask for the wing opposite from the bus stop but even if that is what i got, I would be so happy just to be there. Have fun!

We have stayed in a standard view room at AKL & loved it. Our room was on the lobby level. From the balcony there was plenty of vegetation between us & the handicapped parking lot. Actually the balcony was very peaceful. There are plenty of opportunities to see/watch the animals from the overlooks. We enjoyed the food at Boma's & Mara's. We also enjoyed the storytelling in the evening & the afternoon lobby tour. Be sure to take time to chat with the CMs about their home country, the animals, etc. Have fun!!

..to AKL with a Savannah room reserved we mentioned that we werre there celebrating my DD 's college graduation. The CM who was checking us in excused himself and came back and offered us a concierge room at a percentage of what they usually cost. Unfortunately, we had to decline. The couple who were checking in next to us mentioned that it was their first WDW trip; they were upgraded to a Savannah view. This was occuring the week of 3/19... the hotel was fairly crowded but clearly they were trying to make some fans...
