AKL September 2007!

Hello all! We'll be at AKL come he** or high water from the 16th to the 22nd. There will be no discouraging me! :goodvibes I'm feeling positive! We are coming for our 1st on-site trip with our nieces, aged 10 and 12. It will be my and DH's 2nd trip, my nieces, their 1st ever!!! Since it seems no one else will be there, perhaps that Presidential Suite will be open for us (LOL!) Anways, I'm looking forward to being there in the worst way, and have to say, I'm missing the Tusker House for breakfast on the Sunrise Safari. Does anyone know where we be eating instead? We are staying concierge, and have the premium plan, so we are definately looking forward to all those cool perks. :cloud9: I can only hope you earlier visitors have a good time, and leave some pixie dust behind for us!pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

amcjeep4life, Welcome! Glad you joined our group. Sorry to say our stay will be over before yours starts....it doesn't sound like you will need a lot of pixiedust since you are doing Disney in style. Wow, being on the premium plan will be great. We would need the pixiedust just to stay concierge. I would love to do the Sunrise Safari. From what I have read, it is a wonderful experience....enjoy!!! We are sorry that Tusker House will not be open while we are in the AK park...Doesn't seem to be alot of choices. I'm sure we will manage, we don't seem to miss many meals. Ha!

What fun you are going to have seeing your nieces 1st visit to WDW....there is nothing like the magic of a first visit. I know they will have a blast and never forget how wonderful it was for you to take them. They are at a good age for Disney.

We will leave all left over pixiedust for you. (Presidential Suite should be available.)

Just wanted to drop yall a note. We changed resorts again. To ASMu... Don't ask me how this happened but the price was remarkable not to mention DDs and DH really feel drawn to the larger than life icons. They enjoyed Pop more than CSR.:confused3 I like to be pampered but it doesn't look like that will be going down on this trip. It's a good thing to be getting a refund from Disney anyway.

Good luck on the suite!

Hello all again! Still hoping for the Presidential Suite! :rotfl: Haven't seen anyone else with my dates yet! We have been saving and planning for this trip for a while, and the only reason we are able to do all the perks (concierge, premium plan) is thanks to my partner at work! He decided to break his wrist in March of 2006! Since he did it on the job, they can't rush him back to work, or make him leave. It's only the 2 of us in our department, so I have been working for the past 14 months with NO time off! 7 days a week, straight out. Unfortunately, I have a job that requires at least one daily visit, no matter what. So, everytime I go in for an unexpected shift, I just say to myself "Earning Mickey Money!" :cheer2: Although even that is getting old now! I'm hoping my partner is back for my trip, but as I told my captain, I'm going, no matter what! Everytime I have to break a "date" with the girls, I remind them that there is a reason, and they will find out what it is soon! They don't even know they are going. I can't wait, and have too many days to go! :hourglass

Well ktink we will miss you again. but we won't count you out yet... you seem to have a habit of keep showing up! But either way we wish you a happy and magical disney vacation. :goodvibes

Hey Ktink - sorry to see you go but I can totally understand wanting to save the money. We would do it too but since this will probably be our one and only vacation to WDW we really wanted to splurge a little. Maybe we'll see you back?

ktink, Sorry to see you leave AKL, but glad to see what a saving you are getting. My daughter has been following your threads and called me this morning to see if I didn't want to save a $1,000 (we have 2 rooms) and go to the All Stars. Tempting but I want to stay at AKL maybe next time we will try the All Stars. My daughter's in-laws are also joining us and as of now they are staying at the All Stars Music. I am hoping we will find some time to visit the values and check them out before staying there. I think I would like the icons as well, but would sure miss the balcony and the larger room (okay, I'm spoiled and its hard to change).

Be sure to keep in touch with us.

Carol, I don't blame you for staying at AKL. It is a resort that I've wanted to stay at for a long time. I'll tell you us changing to ASMu has been a blessing in disguise. Earlier this year DH's transmission went out, it's paid for so when we bought it there was no warranty since it was used. So we forked that out but I still knew we could manage staying at AKL. Then the AC went out in my car which is under warranty but we had to pay a deductible. So this weekend I thought it'd be in our best interest to go ahead and save a little extra.

Well low and behold if our hot water heater didn't bust this morning. So then we had that expense. Oh, well you MUST inform me on AKL as ONE day I will stay there.

:rolleyes1 well, we are arriving on SEPT 1st so i guess we have a good chance on that upgrade!! :cheer2: But if not, we will be doing great anyway. Pool View. I am pretty new on this forums, so I do not know anyone... anyone want to meet????

 Sorry to hear about the long string of repairs, been there done that and it makes me . Hopefully it will come to an end soon. :wizard:

Lets just all pray that it makes the Disney magic feel even more special when you arrive and something to really look forward too ! :cool1:

space ranger 1, I'm in NW Houston....how about you? Could we be neighbors? Maybe neighbors at AKL...we get in the day after you! Oh, I guess we won't be neighbors after all, I forgot you will be in the Suite!:goodvibes

Hey Carol/Houston and Space Ranger 1, I am in Houston too, well actually Magnolia, are either of you my neighbors? I am staying at AKL in Sept. also, from the 8th to the 13th. Maybe I will get the Presidential Suite. hee hee hee

I know exactly where you live!!!! :rotfl:

Looks like the two of you have a better chance of being neighbors than me. We live in NE, kind of smooshed between Kingwood & Humble & Atascocita. I think we are officially Humble, but some of the locals would disagree.

We are down to 115 days (only 114 after I go to bed and wake up tomorrow)!! We are going to be there from the 7 - 15. I just can't wait... I am sure the months will go by fast, but the days seem to drag on sometimes.

Are both of you flying or driving?

space ranger 1, Guess I will have to come clean.....PrejeanPrincess is my daughter (didn't know she was posting :confused3) She and her DH have four children (princess:9 princess:7 pirate:5 pirate:5) and we will be traveling together. We always fly to Disney....can't imagine going that far by car with 4 children. :scared1:

:goodvibes Pretty funny that you did not know it was her, did she know it was you? :rolleyes1 Or were you the first to figure it out??? Ah, good times.

We are flying as well. It's been a pretty good year and we can afford to do it all from flying to staying at AKL. Actually were not planning on doing deluxe, but the free dining put it into reach so we went for it. Our kids (DS 7 and DD 5) are good travelers in the car, but it is nice not to have to go that route.

We have several friends that have just gotten back and some other ones that after they heard us talking about free dining are thinking about trying to squeeze a trip the week before us so they don't miss too much school :teacher: . So we keep talking with them about it, but we have to watch our words since we are trying to surprise the kids the day we leave. Which reminds me it is only 114 days more. In only two weeks we will be down to double digits!!!

Hope you do get the chance to stay at the AKL. It's very authentic, and if you do be sure to get a savannah view. Upon waking, you will see the animals walking around the savannah coming to their designated feeding areas. The buffet morning and evening at Boma's is great. They have a speciality drink called "Frunch" (hoped I spelled it right), a blend of juices, be sure you get one. AK is one of my hubby's favorite on-property sites. AKL will be opening villas in October to make it all more attractive. Have a good trip.

Space Ranger 1, we suprised my kids last Sept. and it was great. I kept telling them we would go when my boys (then 4) would be 5 in May. They would wake up in the morning and I would ask them what they wanted to do that day and my idea was to always go to WDW. They would get all excited and then I would have to remind them the trip was over a year away (it was really just a couple of months). When Sept. finally arrived, we woke the kids up at 3:30 a.m. with a video camera in their faces and said let's go to WDW today, of course they did not believe me and wanted to back to sleep. It was hilarious. My daughters (6 & 8) could not stop jumping up and down once they realized that we were really going. It was a really special trip, there were no crowds at the parks, no waits for rides, and no one even on the Boardwalk. I had made all of our ADR (it was free dining then too) well in advance and had trouble getting some of our first picks (but I was persistant and got everything we wanted even LC). Once we got there, I think we ended up cancelling all the ressies I had previously made and were able to make new ressies and eat within 1 - 2 hrs (and there were 7 of us then too). Hopefully, it will be this way again this year.

Hope you are able to get the Presisdential Suite - It's Great, with so many ammenities, can't mention them here. If you want to see a floor plan, call Central Reservations, and they may be able to send you one. If the Pres. Suite is not possible, they also have very nice 1 and 2 bedroom suites with balconies in the living room, master bedrrom and 2nd bedroom. Some say all the suites are too pricey, but that is definitely a personal opinion. Can't remember when you will be here, (I am Local Orlando), but in October, the first phase of the AK villas are to be available. As long as you have a savannah view at this resort, you're going to be okay. By the way, the breakfast and dinner buffet at Boma's is great - get priority seating.

We are eating at Boma 2, possibly 3 times. :woohoo: We have ADR's for breakfast and dinner. We are trying to schedule the Sunrise Safari, and if we get it, we will have to cancel the 2nd breakfast ADR at Boma. :sad1: But we are definitely going to eat at least 2 meals there! :yay: The DH and I are very interested in checking out the possibility of DVC ownership there. Not sure, waffling back and forth. It will be nice to see what they are offering in person, rather than by picture.

Hey, have any of ya'll tried Mara for breakfast? What are the offerings (I've seen the ones on Allears), I am wondering about the kids choices, Allears only shows a children's platter (eggs, bacon, etc.) are there any other kid meals? I posted on the Dining board and got info. on lunch and dinner, so I thought since ya'll seem to be knowlegdeable about Boma, maybe you could help me with Mara. We are also having dinner at Boma - can't wait to try it.
