Hi all,
My DH's boss and his family are going to AKL next month and I said I would do a little research for which room or area they should request with the SV. Please give me your thoughts.

I hate to start out this way, but it depends on what they want to be close to. Do they want to be near the pool/restaurants/lobby/etc? This makes a big difference in where you might suggest they ask for a room.

I was at the AKL this past May and we had a second floor savannah view room. The pool-view rooms were across the hall, so we were close to the pool and the restaurants, but the lobby was a bit of a hike. The view was good on the second floor as we could see all the way across the savannah.

In general, I would recommend rooms on the second floor since that is a close as you can get to the animals in a room (some of the public viewing areas get much closer). I wouldn't go any higher than the third floor though (why pay for the view and then not want to be close?).

You can see a map of the resort at http://www.wdwig.com/aklmap3.jpg but the room numbers are a bit fuzzy. It prints a little clearer.

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have based on my May 2002 experience.

PS. Congrats on your recent marriage!

Thanks so much that's a good start I will ask DH to see if he can get some more specifics

Probably closer to the pool. Thanks.

If having a savannah view that is close to the pool is what they are looking for, that puts them on the Zebra Trail (on the map, it's the upper right hallway of rooms).

To narrow it down more, I would recommend getting a room close to the elevators. I say that because it will be easier to get to the pool and restaurants without having to walk all through the hotel. There is an elevator at the intersection of the main Zebra Trail hallway (the curved part) and the first offshoot. If you take that elevator, there is a door to the pool on the first floor (right near Simba's Club House).

Our room was the first room off this intersection in the offshoot hallway, savannah-side. The view was good and it was easy to get to the pool and restaurants. The lobby was a longer walk, but it's such a nice hotel, we didn't mind.

There are also laundry facilities on the first floor near this intersection if that is important.

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know.
