We will be staying at AKL in August for the first time. We have requested a pool view. Can anyone who has stayed there before give me some suggestions on which trail and floor to request. Thank you.

We had a pool view room in 06 and were on the Giraffe Trail fifth floor. Since that is now DVC on the fifth floor I would just say Giraffe Trail, upper floor. We had a quick elevator ride to the pool and were close to the restaurnts and lobby. Here's a view from our room:

Hope that helps.

Wow, that is beautiful. Thanks for the tip. I will be sure to add that to my reservation.

We are thinking of a pool room in August also. Is it loud?? I know reviews of some of the other resort suggest avioding pool views because of the noise? Also, I saw that pool view says pool or flamingo pond, anyone know where the flamingo pond is??

We stayed in 2001 and requested the cheapest room. View and location didn’t matter since we were going to be at the parks all day. We did request the closest to the main lobby to cut down on walking with the then 9 and 5 year olds. I have been in a lot of the pools at almost all the resorts, and I have to say that the pool at AKL has been the best. Have a great time.

the flamingo pond is next to the pool - if you look at the second picture posted, find the umbrella that is the furthest on the right hand side, it would kind of be behind there to the right. (You can't see it in the picture).
The rooms you see in the picture across the pool are on the Zebra trail. They would be the ones that would likely see the flamingo pond (depending on floor/location).
It's a big pool and a large area. I've not stayed in that area, but all the times we've been to the pool, I never thought it to be loud or noisy.

Thanks (another Yankee fan and Jersey girl here). So buying a pool view room seems to pretty much guarantee me a room in either Giraffe or Zebra trail, which is what I wanted?

Thanks! I was looking for a more detailed map, and could not find one. Guess I did not know where to look.

Hate to hijack the original thread, but I also had a question about the busses. Are there different lines for each of the theme parks or just one big line?

Almost all of the buses will go directly from AKL to the theme park with no other stops. The only exceptions are the Hollywood Studios bus which occasionally stops at Blizzard Beach, and I've heard (but cannot confirm from experience) that Typhoon Lagoon and Downtown Disney also share a bus. There is one bus stop area in the front of the resort with designated stops for each park, so there is no traveling around the resort to different areas to pick anyone else up. Once you're on, you go. However, it remains to be seen if AKL and the new AKV building will be sharing buses.

Last September, we had 2 queens, pool view, Giraffee trail, room 3014. Got to walk right off the lobby without using the elevator. Close to the lobby, but down a bit so there really wasn't any lobby noise. It was right over Jiko, but no real restaurant noise, either. Very close to the outside door (I believe it is on the second floor) that brings you out about 50 yards closer to the bus stop than the main lobby door. Loved it! Close to the pool, lobby, bus stop, restaurants, Mara, and shopping. Had a view of the stream running outside of Jiko and the pool.

Here's a map from allearsnet.com:

In October 2006, we had a savannah view, on the zebra trail. It was a huge room, at the end, in a corner, with an incredible view. Something like room number 4564, 65, or 66. It was just about the longest walk possible, though. You walked to the end of the resort, turned right, and walked a bit more.:cool1:

This year, we're trying the Wilderness Lodge -- love the Magic Kingdom area, and want to try something new. But we absolutely love AKL.

This is our first time at the AKL. We have stayed at the WL before and we love it. The only reason we are trying AKL is that DS5 loves animals. I hope we love it too. You will love WL and being so close to MK. We had a courtyard view last Sept. It was amazing to look out and see bay lake and the pool.

Cool. We've got a court yard view this year. Thank goodness for bounce back with free dining and our local school system observing Jewish holidays! I need my MNSSHP fix. With the planets all aligned as they are, I can do 5 nights, 2 parties, and only take the teenager out of school for 1 full school day.

I've heard that the rooms at WL aren't as spread out as at AKL. How was your walk to the lobby and busses from a courtyard view room?

Your 5 year old will love all the animal activities. There are so many great observation places and cast members ready to help. If you like trying different dishes -- Boma is fantastic, probably our favorite restaurant at WDW.

I love your pictures. We are staying there for two nights beginning of Aug and I requested the pool view. I cant wait:banana:

I would check out the New WL FAQ thread on disboards. It will answer all of your questions about the lodge. The layout of the hotel is basically a "V" Nothing is too far from the food loby or pool. That was why we always picked that one. We are hoping that AKL is not too spread out, although, from the looks of the map, the pool view rooms are close to everything.

ok stupid question du jour: is a pool view more expensive than a standard view? Maybe I should think "upgrade"?

Yes, I am not sure exactly how much, but I think it is at least $30/night maybe more. If you are in the room after 8 p.m. every night like we are because we have little ones, it is nice to sit out on the balcony w/DH and have some quiet time. You can check the disney website for exact pricing. I know that the difference between the Savanah view and the pool view is much more significant. Good Luck!

Thank you for your prompt reply  ! I think I'll keep what I have - my 2 kids are teens now and we tend to get up early and stay out later. But those pictures of the pool view are to die for!!!:woohoo:

Thank you - I think we actually like that view better than Savannah.
